  1. I have recently acquired a “Japanese” import BMW 118d (F20 2016) which has now lost its iDrive readout. And I am new to BMWs and Bimmersport and cars build this century…. So I am looking for help to fix this and posting as a warning to others, assuming you don’t already know all about this……. After taking the 118d to Continental Cars BMW in Wairau in Auckland for two (2) recalls as checked and reported on the BMW NZ recall website. >> The EGR Cooler fix (I know the why’s and wherefores for this). >> And a software update. (and I am not sure what this would do and CC-BMW couldn’t tell me, although I now know it ruins the iDrive). CC-BMW made me sign a waiver regards the software update so I really should of said no…… but you assume the best I guess. On collecting the car I was informed the head unit / radio and GPS /navigation no longer works. On checking the car there is no iDrive display/information at all and the screen only says “no signal” in red letters in the middle of the screen. On raising this with CC-BMW they have advised taking the car to “OBDTech NZ” in Penrose who are “likely” to restore the iDrive system. On doing a bit of research on the WWW it appears this is a common issue on Japanese import BMWs that have the radio and navigation updated locally for NZ. Apparently other BMW dealers recommends not doing any software updates on similar cars for this reason. On checking with “Auto Gravity” (who are local Japanese import vehicle conversion specialists) they informed me this is common on the imported 1 series (and others?) when the software is upgraded by BMW after the NZ Radio/GPS updates. Apparently the pre 2014 models just lose the maps. Post 2014 lose everything. Hopefully I have quoted this correctly. I have tried rebooting the iDrive system multiple times (holding mode and on/off button for 30s) which does seem to reboot the system but it still comes up with “no signal” on the screen. I am guessing the iDrive system needs the head unit “reflashed” using a dealer level tool (or some other witchcraft)……….. quoting a guy from the UK on the www. So can anyone please help with getting my iDrive back? The radio and navigation is a low priority as I will probably just use my phone for google maps and music etc. So are any of these possible or could work: 1. Is there anyone in Bimmersport World who can help with this in Auckland (or the North Island)? 2. Can anyone recommend either OBDTech or Auto Gravity to help (or anywhere else)? 3. Are there other ways to access the iDrive system, remotely? I can’t get “My BMW” to work as the car is from Japan also. 4. Any other clever tricks that might help? Ive got no idea whats going on and ive only seen one other person with this issue on this forum but he got no replies This morning i started my e90 325i and noticed on the iDrive screen it was all different and not normal, the radio doesnt work its just static and every station is “87.5” the Settings dont have words just symbols I have indeed tried resetting the idrive with the two ejects and power button. When it resets it goes back to normal and everythinf is fine bur after 3-5 seconds its back to the weird configurment. Please help this is driving me crazy
  3. Hi i was wondering if anyone knew how to fix a issue i have with my 2010 bmw 523i. Ive been trying to pair my iphone with the idrive but it'll connect and receive incoming calls but it still says on the car screen that device is not found when i try pair the phone after doing the passcode thing but it only says connected on my phones Bluetooth screen and says it couldn't connect on my cars screen. So cant connect any contacts on it and it doesn't come up on the paired phones either . Any help would be appreciated thanks.

All the people with knowledge of converting Japanese radio / navigation to work in NZ seem to be based in the top of the North Island, so I'm putting the call out for someone in or around Wellington that's done this / can do this for me. I have just bought a 2009 525i. Carjam told me "manufactured in Germany" and bimmer.work says "Market: Europe (right Steering)" so I assumed it'd be compatible as my last, much loved 330Ci proved to be. So much for assumptions... So I'd like to get the radio, navigation and TV (though the latter isn't essential) working. I've tried the various advice threads on here; I've set the TV to "New Zealand" but nothing gets picked up; it's a CIC so there's no "mode" button for the radio, and the navigation actually displays, but shows me Japan 🤦‍♂️ Ironically I work in radio but I'd find it easier to tune our transmitter down to the 70MHz band than I've found getting the radio to go up above 90MHz. Is there anyone local who can actually point at things and talk me through what I need to do or, alternatively, is there an outfit in Wellington (other than the BMW dealer) who does this for a not outrageous price? TIA
  5. Cic head unit $SOLD Out of an e90 3-series. Tested and works perfectly. Sorry but I'm not willing to assist with an installation or coding.
  6. I have owned my car for no longer than 2 months. I bought it with a faulty navigation display. The fault code appears to be 2DED. The screen will not function at all. Does anyone know any repair facilities in NZ? I’m wanting to get this done when I can. I’ve been told it’s the LCD that needs to be replaced. Any help is appreciated! Cheers
  7. I own a 2011 116i fitted with an iDrive system. The vehicle is a Japanese import. The iDrive system has been set to English, and all iDrive and dash displays appear in English. However, when I start the vehicle a tone plays, followed by an audio message in Japanese. I'd like to stop this from happening, does anyone have any suggestions?
  8. $9,499 ono. Great XMAS gift Moving overseas in a couple of weeks, so I really need to sell this. 6 cylinder Tiptronic 3 Series with M Sport trim, wheels and body kit. Internally, comes with iDrive. Yes the BMW system with stock built in screen, not the after market addition some dealerships add in. Maps and TV do not work because it has the original Japanese based system but it does have a fully functioning radio with the NZ bandwidths and a 6 CD stacker in the boot. Tyres are run flats and the car will come with an unused refill can. I'll chuck in the phone holder and AUX cable, both pictured. M-Sport trim is included as pictured. 157,000 kms (at the moment). WOF and Rego due in Jan 2018. Full disclosure: > The wheels are all silver. The car just needs a wash. Wheel finish is a tiny bit worn in places and there is a little curbing from the previous Japanese owner but not extensive > Currently one of the right headlights has just stopped working (as pictured). I took it into a Euro mechanic and he found that it was the ballast behind the headlight that needed replacing, rather than the bulbs (which I tried initially). I have found a replacement ballast, I just have no time with all of our planning to take in to get swapped out, so will happily supply with the sale. To be clear, the high beams and halos work, it's the standard light that has failed. > I was backed into on the left rear bumper. There is a small graze and rippling of paint in this section (as pictured). > Rear tyres will need replacing, I just passed the last WOF. I'm not a hoon, a gift from the previous owner but have never found any grip issues. Feel free to ask any questions
  9. Hi, hopefully somebody can help. Bought a 135i 2 weeks ago, 2010 N54 Coupe, originally registered in Japan and was imported in 2013 where it had a CIC conversion, not entirely sure what version but has 3D Maps, doesnt appear to have bluetooth although there is a phone button on the wheel, theres a USB port in the glovebox too. My iphone charges when connected but nothing comes up on the iDrive screen, also downloaded the BMW connect app and could not see a connection. Looked in the boot and looks like they installed the harness for the Combox but never bothered fitting one. Do i just need to get a combox and everything will work? Will i need to code anything afterwards, or perform an iDrive update?
  10. Just wondering if anyone else has hit this issue with an iDrive unit failing to boot reliably. Had my car in getting a door trim/switch panel replaced and this involved the whole door panel off and disconnecting a bunch of things. When I got it back the iDrive was just coming up to the BMW logo and then flicking off later on. It is intermittent - about 15% of the time it does start up and run OK. Have done the reset/CTL_ALT_DEL using the 2 disc-player eject keys and the volume on/off button but that doesn't help. The garage is not a euro specialist but does regularly work on BMWs and the diags were reporting issues or absence of low-voltage signals - and didn't know what this meant in terms of a solution. Have it booked into Jeff Gray to get it diagnosed and/or replaced. Thank heavens I have an Autosure Extreme Cover warranty!!! Anybody seen this issue? Unfortunately if it gets replaced (with a replacement Japan-spec unit) I'm expecting to lose the NZ localisation for the radio and GPS nav system
  11. Does anyone know if it is possible to swap out the mini disk player in a E90 CCC unit with a CD player from another unit? The CD/MD and DVD drives are replacable components. The unit needs a nav conversion, but as far as I'm aware when changing nav (or radio for that matter) on these E90 CCC units doesn't require any hardware (just coding and pulling out jap HDD nav in boot), so if I pay someone to get it converted they won't be replacing the in-dash CCC unit (and hence getting a CD player instead of MD). Please correct me if I'm wrong! ​Anyone in the know's help appreciated!
