  1. Update: So this issue as discussed ended up having nothing to do with a Misfire. It was a quick shudder from the torque converter that can feel just like a misfire. The confusion came about as multiple issues happened at the same time. The valvetronic motor needed replacing and a coil pack died. The main issue is a shudder caused by the GM made torque converter. A common failure in all vehicles that use this gearbox. Usually occurs when the gearbox fluid is old or low. The fix: A transmission service. Filled it correctly (took two litres more than came out and is the correct amount). And an additive from Lubegaurd call anti shudder. I have had no further issues in the 1000km I have tested. My first issue with my E87. Strangely I am not angry about it. Car's been so good that I have had nothing to do on it. So on Saturday during a trip to Napier I noticed a short vibration under load at lower RPM (2500 to 4000). Vibration would only last a second then it was gone. At first I thought it was something mechanical like a gearbox issue or driveshaft donunt. But the issue is intermittent. And I noticed a little loss of power when it is occurring. So it has to be a misfire of some type. I quick google and it seems pretty common especially for cars doing short trips in the cold. Well I am doing the shortest of trips in the cold. Less than 2km's per trip and it's been in the negatives over the last week. The annoying thing is I am getting no codes. So if it is a plug, coil pack or injector I have no idea which one. Does anyone have any tips on hunting them down. I have tried two of my cheap scan tools with no luck. Will plug the laptop in and check too. I have heard these engines are sensitive to what plug is installed. And the Brits keep talking about injector recalls which I can find nothing about in NZ.
  2. During cold starts I get slight missing and rough idle. If I don't leave the car to idle for a minute or two before driving the car it will seriously misfire as soon as I load the engine, throwing multiple misfire codes, cylinder shutoff etc, limp home mode. Even if I let off the throttle and reduce load it will just continue to misfire. If I pull over and restart the car its usually fine immediately after. It blows a little smoke cold and I notice the exhaust tips are getting really black like its running too rich or something? Comes good when warm. Twice I have instances too where the car is up to temperature. I go to plant it from a standstill (high load, low rpm) and again it sends it shuddering into multiple cylinder misfires etc). I have recently replaced Plugs, Coils and upgraded to brand new OEM index 12 injectors. Before the injector change I was getting misfire codes, shuddering, spluttering on start ups. There has been a real improvement. But still nagging issues. Vanos solenoids and boost solenoids also changed reasonably recently. I run the car nearly entirely on Gulls E10 98 octane. Colleagues suggest that maybe its shitty fuel? Thoughts on that remark? Car is running jb4 with MHD BEF. Logs for LPFP and HPFP pressures look really good at start up and running so I think it would be clutching at straws to blame them. But nothing is impossible right? Codes are repeated individual cylinder misfires including 29CC (several cylinders) and 29DC (cylinder injection shutoff). But have also had 2x 29F1 (Fuel pressure, Plausibility) and one 29F3 recently (Faulty low fuel pressure sensor) Also had 2B2C come up frequently and im not sure what that is? Car has only 70,000km on the clock. Boosts well (when this isn't happening). Seen in logs it easily reaches 17psi targets. Does have horrendous waste gate rattle though. I feel like walnut blasting might come up as a recommendation. Who does it in or near taranaki? Is hamilton my closest bet? I have bought a catch can to be fitted too. Your thoughts are appreciated!
  3. Hi team. I’m just trying to solve the problem with my E46 320i M54B22 and the engine light came on. I’ve scanned the codes and there’s a bank 1 and 2 fuel bank trim and also all six cylinder misfiring. I’ve had my air intake boots replaced and all the vacuum lines are replaced as well, no leaking from valve cover as I’ve replaced one this week. O2 sensors are quite new as well. The car doesn’t stall or idle rough either. My guess is could be a CCV system failure which I’m going to replace them very shortly but I just want to ask for your opinion of what else causes to all cylinder misfiring? Please and thank you very much in advance.
  4. Hey guys, my mum owns a BMW 318ti, N42 engine. It is misfiring while at idle. Check engine light is on, got it scanned at my work, it is coming up with 3 errors, Motronic ME 9.2 (4). I was wondering if anyone had an idea on common problems with this? I have attached a picture of what was picked up with the scanner. Sadly couldn’t get exact engine fault codes, only this. Any help would be appreciated. I understand now that the N42 is a terrible engine, and this car isn’t good. Wish I had of known that before she bought the car!
  5. Hi guys, Bought BMW 325i 3.0 in December 2016. Absolutely no issues when I drove it from Auckland to Wellington. After few days I noticed these issues in the BMW * annoying noise in the cabin when I drive the BMW * noise goes away when switch to N, in the middle of the driving (that what BMW guys said, they said could be transmission thing, but needs a transmission to hear the noise) * it runs very rough, not quiet, sounds like Diesel * ticking noise from the engine * Steering shakes when idle * Poor acceleration * Vibration through the pedals * Slow shifting of gears * drives uphill, engines misfires sometimes (Engine light came once) It used to drive very smooth, super quiet and powerful. I went to one of the European cars specialist in Wellington, they carried out diagnostic scan and no codes found in system, carried out live data test all OK, they suspect fault with cam followers and rockers rollers. Gave me a hefty quote to fix it, they said all rollers and lifters will need to be replaced, quoted me around $6000 Any suggestions, help would be appreciated. Any one had similar kind of issues with E90 325i?

    E92 Misfire

Hi guys. I have a problem with my 2006 E92 335i, 150,000kms. Usually when a problem pops up, i fix it myself (with help from google and forums). Now it has developed a misfire. It only misfires on low RPM, between idle and 3000. Sometimes i feel it shake and stutter, other times its runs fine. I get a check engine light, and all scans dictate that the misfire is only in cyl. 5. Obviously there are a few things to troubleshoot. I have swapped coils, misfire still in cyl. 5. The plugs were replaced about 6 months ago, so i'm pretty sure its not them. The 3rd concern was the injector. I have removed it, cleaned the outsides, and stuck it back in. I have had a chat with a BMW mechanic, and he says its very unlikely that it might be the injector. So my question is, how/where/what do i check next? Really want this problem gone. Preferably without spending $1000's. HELP!
