  1. I've been around the rally scene for a few years, both as a competitor and am organiser. I started competing at age 12 in my father's Mk1 Escort, eventually progressed to an AE92 Corolla FXGT and won the local club championship as well as doing a few club rallys, and then did the usual mid-late 20's thing of getting married, having kids etc. So motorsport took a back seat for a while. Now that the kids are a bit older and the mortgage is under control I decided it was time to get back into doing some competing. Or perhaps it's just a mid-life crisis thing. For me motorsport is about having fun driving the car fast. Some people are out there trying to be as competitive as possible and winning at all costs. That's not me. Heck, on one gravel rally I was lifting off on the straights (doing 160km/h) because that was more than fast enough for my tastes! And when I did go after the club championship I didn't enjoy the racing because I put too much pressure on myself to get a good result. So coming back into the sport I want to build something that is fast enough not to get boring, slow enough I'm not going to scare myself silly, is reliable and, most importantly, goes sideways. Because going straight is boring and sideways is much more fun! After looking at what existing competition cars were out there that met my requirements (not many) and were within my budget (even fewer) I decided to go the route of building my own. I'm not a very good mechanic, so building a rally car from scratch means I'll be leaning on lots of my car club friends to assist with the trickier stuff. And I don't have an unlimited budget so this is going to be a case of spending money where it's going to be worthwhile (eg: good suspension) and forgetting about things that won't materially add to the enjoyment factor (eg: adding carbon-fibre roof scoops). The candidate vehicle I identified? An E87 130i - with 260bhp without making any modifications to the engine and rear wheel drive, plus ample parts availability for the inevitable meetings with banks and fences, I decided this was the best route to take. Here's the car I bought, in full lowered, boy-racer spec: The rough plan for the build is: Safety gear - rollcage, seats, belts etc Suspension - something strong that will handle rough rally roads without requiring repairs after every event Brakes - work out what can work with 15" wheels without having to replace the entire setup with a pedal box etc. And of course a bias valve to get some braking onto the rear. Diff - you can't go sideways properly without a LSD! (not without welding it anyway, which isn't the plan) Other - sump guard, under-body protection etc. And all the electronic nannies need to be exorcised from the car. Bureaucratic stuff - it's going to need both a MSNZ Authority Card and a LVVTA Low Volume Cert. The latter is always fun to sort out... As of starting this thread I'm already part way through the build, so I'll add posts over the next few days with what's been done so far. Thanks to family stuff the build isn't going particularly quickly but the car should be in a state to at least get out of the garage sometime before winter - I hope!

  5. $8,500 Selling one of the most enjoyable driving cars I have owned due to an opportunity that has come up that I don’t want to miss. MUST GO! I’m the second owner, first owner had for 218,000kms in Japan- Hawkes Bay BMW couldn’t fault it upon its arrival inspection in May. In outstanding condition beside blemish on front bumper, leather is mint, headlining is mint- one comment from BMW “it drives like its a 30km car” Just replaced rocker gasket seal as preventative maintenance. 2007 BMW 130i Motorsport LCI. - 228,000kms - 6speed Manual - 6pot BREMBO front brakes (135i bolt on upgrade) - 18x8.5 Square style 219 - 2,500km old BU66 235/40/R18 - KW street sport suspension (shocks + springs) - Alcantara Motorsport steering wheel - BMW performance shift knob + Alcantara boot - Full leather - Idrive - Sunroof - ‘Golf tee’ exhaust mod, lovely burbles and pops - Have all factory parts + BREMBO rear brakes Was going to be a racecar eventually as it’s a great base for one.
  6. Good used condition, perfect upgrade for non motorsport BMW or replace damaged ones. These wheels are 18x8 all around and tires are a 245/40/18 A few kurb marks as showen in pictures. Off BMW 550i and will fit all E60 bmws plus many more models. Continental Contact Sport 5 tires with approx. 4.5mm and Dunlop tires with approx. 3mm of tread. $525.00 for Bimmersport members
  7. $9,000 Obo Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am having to sell something I was going to keep for ever.. Its a New Zealand new, 1996 BMW 328I SE Motorsport Factory Manual in DaytonaViolett Metallic with Black leather interior originally sold by Shelly BMW. I have just replaced the following in the past couple of weeks: - Brand new genuine BMW water pump - Brand new genuine BMW thermostat - Brand new Battery as of today The kilometers read at low 147,000kms and the condition reflects this, all the common door card failures etc are not found in the interior of this vehicle and the leather is near perfect. It has 4 basically brand new tyres all round, the engine, gearbox and clutch make it drive smoother than a gravy sandwich. It will come with spare Fog lights, Clear indicators, bulbs and BMW car care kits. As you would expect its not entirely perfect and has the following minor imperfections: - Hood lining down quoted approx $100 from local upholster) - Fuel sender line needs to be re soldered so it doesn't read empty - Two or three very minor areas of clear coat peel If more photos or details are needed don't hesitate to pm me, price is somewhat negotiable but getting harder to find such clean examples in these specs.
  8. Just looking to see if any other 540i motorsports are out there for sale other than the TradeMe ones, looking for good condition low to med klms, with service history
  9. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1369090051 price unclear (starting bid $7k) 195kms 'Sonderpolsterung' individual black and red contrast leather interior Active heated comfort seats Hi-Fi pro audio Bit of clear-coat fade Has had a bunch of important maintenance/replacement done Pictures are a bit rubbish but I like this
  10. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1321198583 $15K mixed kms due to lots of rebuilt stuff "Set up as a Race/Track/Targa car she(Ella) has had close to $55K spent on her including the original purchase price. The motor is still the original 3.5 Litre straight six, blue printed around 12000K's ago with a race cam, high volume fuel pump, bigger air box and hand made extractors. Coupled up to a 5 speed manual box with competition clutch. Suspension is Bilstiens with coil overs and the front end has been completely re fabricated - 3 Degrees negative camber. Front brakes are from a late model M5 and the rears are from a V8 850BMW. Adjustable internal brake bias. She is fast, at around 265 BHP, but her handling and braking capabilities embarrass a lot of modern vehicles on the track. She has a full cage a 4 point harness, but these are out of date and will need to be complied if you want to go racing. OR, I can take the cage out and re install the interior ready for the street. She will be sold with a new warrant and at the moment the Rego is on hold. Will put 6 months on when sold.
  11. Finally got an 04 545i, wish me luck. Haven't even laid eyes on it yet as being delivered tomorrow. Looking forward to spending the long weekend getting used to it. Had an E39 523i two cars back and been hanging out for another Beemer but with some grunt since. Keen to keep an eye on here for tips, advice, parts, drives/runs and anything social.

  16. Hi All, First post, joined in 2012 with an 03 530 motorsport titansilber but now have just picked up TopasBlau 03 motorsport. Was looking for a v8 but couldn't go past this one at the price. A few new parts are streaming in from the US and Europe. Done the CCV and DISA, a damn good clean, painting wheels, got a waterpump and thermostat to do, the valve cover gasket needs doing and I may do the Vanos O-rings at the same time. Underbody spoiler shields are missing (Geez they're expensive..) and a fair bit of watermarking to deal with. Apart from that - he's perfect.... Look forward to learning a bit of stuff and sharing a bit of knowledge on here... I'm also on bimmerfest. Cheers Stuart.

  19. Hey everyone, just joined and i was told you have to post a photo of your car. So here is my pride and joy. It is my first car and I have the mind set of never selling my car, it is a 325i motorsport.
  20. Not many of these around, I grant you, the last one I saw was a bit above my price range listed at $27K on TM. Anyway, I'm about to turn 40 so want a more fitting car for my mid-life crisis than my beloved 540i. Absolutely love the E31 shape but not really interested in the V12s; I've driven a couple and wasn't very impressed but I have a supercharger kit lying around that would go neatly into the V8. Would prefer the late model (95+) 840 with the 4.4L V8 instead of the 4L so the sc kit would be a straight bolt on without requiring any modification. Don't care about colour but would like grey/cream leather interior if possible (though not essential) and would prefer motorsport kit. Almost any condition considered as my budget will be whatever I can get for the 540i. Would like to keep the supercharger kit so I can put it in the 840i but would consider selling it for the right offer if it means I can get a mint 840.
  21. Hey everyone, Just thought I'd 'show off' my E39 after she's cleaned up and had photos taken. I must say the photos sure make it look cleaner than it actually is haha This is of course after the truck hitting me has now been fixed, me crashing into my garage has now been fixed (DOH!), and the crack on the back bumper I bought it with is fixed. + some yellow fog lights just to be different and a black grill and some tinted windows and there she is.
  22. Hi Everyone, So have previously had an E34 535iS and have been rocking a Mazda 6 MPS but needed to downgrade a bit for financial reasons so ended up with the following: 2002 BMW 525i Motorsport Jap Import Topazblau Metallic Suede Interior HiFi System Glass Sunroof 126KMS 18" Style 42's - Any recommendations where to get the bumpers done, both have areas needing some plastic welding and repainting. Cheers Bimmersporters!
