Evryone that sits below 100mm mark

im real keen on some for the front, i want to go maybe 10mm lower, but it works out ( if im right? ) that the most they lower is 1.5" which is a measly 375mm. so more sporty rather than super low.

wohoo thats expensive postage!! 450 on trademe seems ok, however any set of springs is going to cost that or there abouts

Hi Guys,

I imported something similer to the coilovers you showed in the picture once from Taiwan to check the quality, I brought them through a third party and landed them for a ridiciously cheap price which set my suspicions about the quality as soon as I saw the invoice, once the items arrived I checked them and found they weren't too well made, certainly there are some similar style coilovers out there which are good (but not many), and I wouldn't put them in my own car, I have spent a huge amount of money importing researching and developing suspension for the New Zealand market and still haven't managed to achieve the same discount I recieved on one set of the above mentioned kit of cheap coilovers, so the moral is SOME THINGS COST MORE FOR A REASON!, sometimes if you wan't a car lowered a certain amount LIKE 100MM LOWER THAN STANDARD, SOMETIMES YOU JUST SHOULDN'T.

I'm really glad you can see we are serious about this

I know modifications are of personal taste and I agree with you there

Lights, exhausts, seats, mirrors and wheels ( even a japa spoiler ) if your that way inclined are all personal

However, when it comes to suspension, steering & brakes

YOU NEED TO BE SERIOUS !!!!!

Get the right, professional advise and do it properly

I would hate to see a member get killed or end up killing someone else on our roads because of this sort of thing

Alot of people in here can help members do it right

I agree that in the end it's your own decision, but we are a car club and all the other members are trying to do is show the (generally younger) members the light, so to speak. Stay safe guys and don't let your mods compromise the driving machine your car was built to be, just for the sake of looks.

I agree. Each to their own and if you get caught don't cry about it. Even though everyone does/will. Guess $200 doller pink sticker and 80 doller WOF is still cheaper than 500 doller cert which will get you stickered anyways.

That is so, so backward. It's only cheaper once (and cert is $450)... and you shouldn't get stickered if the car is certed for the ride height*. With the cert you're insured, without you're not. That's $170 difference between being legal and being not. If you're pink stickered twice you lose.

Plus WTF (still) with being so low. Handling is destroyed. Tyres, bushing and ball joints wear faster. You can't actually drive anywhere without bottoming out. You become a police magnet. W...T...F...

* Unless that ride height is 40mm. You might as well put a sign on the car saying "F#%$ the Police" and park up outside the cop shop playing the NWA song of the same name.

If you go lower get a cert, and get a cert from somebody who actually gives a sh*t about you, not just for money.

If you cant do the speed limit because your car is too low your a bloody idiot!! I'd rather be stuck behind a drunk driver then behind you. "Bro"

This thread is getting seriosly lame guys not to mention repetitive.

Clearly there is two opinions and a bridge cannot be built between the two.

The risks of having a low car have been explained and I hope, taken on board by the paticular parties.

Why not leave it at that instead of ranting on?

actually so far ive seem to have had none of those problems and my cars being lowered for about a year funny that eh, and ive got a few mates who are cops and you can still be pink/green stickered with a cert, so whats the point in wastingthe cash to get one when it doesnt do you any good with the police

this thing's like 40mm off the deck. only the exausht scrapes on _most_ judder bars and driveways and it doesn't bottom out any more than a standard escort whilst still retaining satisfactory handling for a road car.

don't rag on me for how it looks either. It's that way for a certain look

hardly on topic but shows it's all in the thinking beforehand. this was sorted for bugger all coin but has never been hassled by the cops. faily comfortable to ride in too.

my daily's about 110mm off theground and a simlar wheelbase to a e32 7series. I clip the exhaust if I take the driveway at work wrong but it's a total bitch of a driveway anywho. 'tis sweet as for passenger carrying/towing and is comfortable as.

<sigh> I said tyres, balljoints and bushing wear "faster". A year is hardly long enough to know if you're sweet or not - it might be 100% of the time you've owned the car, or 50% of the time you've had your licence, but its not long enough for this conversation. If your tyres have ANY camber wear, you have too much camber for a street car.

Theoretically you can't be pink or green stickered for a modification that's certed. If you're stupid enough to get a cert at a higher ride height (the cert gives a +/- 5% range) than you drive around at then you'll get done. If you have modifications not covered by the cert, you'll get done.

Look, I've got nothing against the slammed look. I have a big problem with uninsurable, unsafe vehicles being driven around. Dropping a car that much causes some pretty serious changes to the geometry and - unless you change the shocks - will be bouncy which is a problem not a feature. Both these will screw up the handling and that is why there is a cert required. If your car bounces/pitches with poor body control, it's a liability in the wet. End of story.

For me personally, the tradeoffs to being that low aren't worth it (judder bars and driveways) - it's fine if you want to deal with those problems, but do it legally not just flaunting the law.
