Engine Problem - Daves

Recommended Posts

Guest Andrew

Daves car (320 85) has another engine problem. This one seems a tad more serious. Under no load you can rev the motor right to redline. Chuck some load on that bad boy and it pulls to ~ 5000 rpm and then BANG POP misfire with poo loads of smoke out the back. I couldn't test in 2nd gear (320s take too much space to go that fast hah) .. Any ideas?

I'm thinking - farked spark plugs OR problem with L-Jet OR broken rocker arm.

Suggestions people.

I'm gonna blame ignition -

Sounds like its getting pre igniting under heavy load. What sort of timing is being run?

Well - you'd expect some serious knocking. It doesn't get that... I think Daves is only pulling 12 deg adv. and running 98. My 320 is running 22 deg advance on 98 - but it has a new head so the compression is mint I guess.
