Well lets just see how long it sits, and then determine who is "right" in this thread.

Some things amaze me with collectable cars. Giltraps recently had a 911 964 Speedsteer in Speed Yellow travelled less than 8,000kms from new. It was absolutely mint and could not be faulted. From memory they had it less than a week and the asking price was $110k. Not my cup of tea, but a car with genuine rarity and pedigree. I first thought the asking price was way off, but someone obviously bought it.

My bet is that Jeff Gray will get sick of people constantly looking at it, and not buying it and eventually give it back to the owner or tell them to price it more realistically. However, I could be really wrong and it could sell tomorrow. I guess we just have to wait and see..

My 2 cents - does it really matter what the guy is trying to sell his car for? Any seller can name their own price, the market will dictate if it sells. I don't think this car is for the average buyer, there may be someone out there who will pay the asking price, and whether that is a good deal or not is subjective. Plus IIRC the owner is on the board, and he seems like a nice guy so let's show him some respect.

I think that we can all agree that it's a damn nice looking car and any of us would love to have it. A BMW being taken care of so well is a wonderful thing so let's just keep it at that... we are all BMW enthusiasts after all :D

I totally agree Yuen... when someone finds the better one in NZ that everyone thinks exists...I'll buy it.

Please remember whether the price is too high or not ( and who can qualify the value ???) please give the owner some respect, he is offering the car for sale. No need to bag it (the car) or the owner.

Please play nice guys :D

For the record : the only RHD car that I know of (as in from new) is the one referred to in Auckland. However, it was a prototype of sorts, albeit that it was assembled with the assistance of BMW German specialists. it was not assembled at the factory ion Germany so in that sense the 'only left hand drive production comment ' is correct. There were a number of E30M3's brought into NZ new (I owned one back then as well). These were converted to RHD by Road and Track and others for authorised approval for road registration and use on our roads. Similarly, Byrds in the UK converted a number of E30M3's for the same reasons.

+1

agreed.

It was "factory endorsed" though and able to be sold as that. of which there was only one!

performance bmw recently stated, misleadingly, there was one RHD produced as well.

it just fustrates me to see people claim what cars should be worth. i would gladly pay 100k for the cab if i had the money.

i would also happily pay more than a 100k for the evo that owner has/had in his garage too!

it only takes one passionate owner to shift market value. and the e30 m3 will never drop in price

Excuse me ? You ' can't look at the resto thread coz you have to register ' ???

You and 1071 other current members sir.

I am a moderator on that E30M3 Tech site. You CAN register and then you will see for yourself. However, the board consists of predominantly mature E30M3 owners internationally. Somehow I have reservations about your good self 'fitting in'. But feel free. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you....

Regards.

Can and did, then had to wait a couple of days until I was authorised (and I had to fish the confirmation email out of the spam folder) before I could look at the thread. I'm surprisingly grown up, which you could figure out if you read some of my other posts. I even have a lesser M3, so must value them to some extent. I bought it recently and there were a lot of cars sitting with asking prices 20%+ too high, and the price on your car feels the same.

Look I don't especially want to spend ages arguing with you - its not going to change either of our minds. I'm not the guy who spent $100k to refurbish a car which has been driven 200km, but if I was I'd probably be pretty touchy about its value.

I'd still put the value of this car at no more than that of an Evo3, so if you get the same $80k IMHO you've done well. I think it's only worth $60-70k (the resto job does look to be excellent), but either way its worth what someone will pay for it. Maybe now's a good time to sell - there's been close to a decade of good economic times globally and it looks to be turning, so there's nothing to say the value won't change negatively soon.

Good luck.

Again, you have no idea.

The E30M3 Cabrio is as rare as rockinghorse s..t.

The cost of one of these cars new was far in excess of the Evo3 (which I have owned and is known by most senior BMW people in NZ...and around the world).

The facts are clear.

1). You cannot own this car.

2) Anyone that wants to own this car will NOT be able to replicate that possibility with another one of same standard in this Country or in Australasia..period.

3) Bring your own one to the table. Go import your own parts (if you have the right contacts). Try and reproduce the same car that cost an absolute arm and leg back in 1989. Far more than a Sport Evo.

4). STOP WAFFLING ON ABOUT SOMETHING THAT YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT AND QUITE FRANKLY, CANNOT AFFORD.

As before, it looks lovely and each to their own.

Incidentally, the E30 325i did have motorsport pedigree, it won either the WTCC or German equivalent in '85-'86 (bit vague as I can't remember the dates/series), beating the Cosworth 190E in the process. What series did the E36 M3 win?

Good luck with the sale.

C'mon guys, let the bone go. Neither of you are going to achieve anything from this and it's just one opinion against the other. Not worth the aggro IMHO. ;)

Good luck with the sale, nice car, but the market will dictate what it's worth and whether you sell it or not.

AND QUITE FRANKLY, CANNOT AFFORD.

That's surprisingly personal, regardless of whether its true.

If you can put aside your "M3 is the greatest" attitude for a while, you might notice that my first post indicated I know that they are rare. Rare doesn't necessarily mean good, it means rare.

2) Anyone that wants to own this car will NOT be able to replicate that possibility with another one of same standard in this Country or in Australasia..period.

You can buy one from Europe. Simple. You may not be able to drive it here, but since you've done about 200km in a year in yours that's as close to "not driving" as you can get. If you use your car in the manner for which it was built, its value will drop reasonably significantly.

Why are your panties in such a knot over what some guy on the internet thinks anyway? If its so friggin' great, why are you selling?

Palazzo - the equivalent E36 (the 2 litre Super Tourer) competed in BTCC and Germany and did pretty well, from memory. Its less of a car than the Grp A M3 from a pedigree perspective and I never suggested that E36 M3s should have the same value as E30 ones - they common by comparison. It does raise an interesting point though - $100k for an E30 M3 cabriolet is getting into Grp A M3 money, and I know which I'd prefer as a toy or as an investment.

Fair enough (although it's only fair OSCAR has another go since I just posted again before I saw this). I'm not feeling aggro at all - its just a discussion about car values.

Well, if your customer won't buy it for top dollar I suspect no-one will then.

I am actually more surprised he found someone willing to pay over $20k for an M325i. Thats a huge premium over the "normal" M325i price and pretty difficult to justify. I don't know the car, but I know it can be extremely difficult to find a buyer for a car prepared to pay for condition. Why would you buy an M325i, no matter how mint, when it's into M3 territory? At least an M3 is actually rare and has motorsport pedigree (and mechanicals for that matter).

And if its coz of the mint condition and you believe its collectible, why would you buy an M325i that you couldn't drive?

I can't look at the resto thread coz you have to register (I have, but I need approving apparently). How "restored" is it? The leather doesn't look new. Also 200km since rebuild isn't like new. Its like rebuilt.

Don't get me wrong - I think its a very nice car (not to my taste), but the pricing is crazy and anyone paying that price is crazy. There are way better and/or rarer cars in that price range.

Well, I did say earlier that I would go easy on you......but I am leaning towards an alternative disposition.

Where the hell to you get off making disparaging remarks about Ivan's car ?

Have you ever owed a mint E30 325 MS ?

Have you ever owned ANY E30M3 car ?

Quoting the marketplace is a nonsense. Why ? Because you cannot find comparables...that is why.

So enough of the silly talk and speculation.

Even when you do speculate it will prove false. You are no expert so please stop pretending to be so.

I have sat back and watched a few "discussions" such as this one over the term of my short membership here and to be perfectly frank is pisses me right off.

Who is right, who is wrong - who gives a f**k. This forum, is by its nature a forum for people to express opinions - there will undoubtedly be conflicting ones - all the better.

I'm a big fan of intelligent debate and until this current one turned a bit nasty and personal I had no issue with it. People with holier than thou attitudes and "the internet is wrong, I'm right" opinions need to look at themselves before they very quickly descend into angry spiteful versions of themselves and start cooking off.

I won't name names and this thread is merely an example of an often witnessed "problem" (although I hesitate to call it that). Personally I'd like to see good manners prevail and a more respectful, agree to disagree type of approach from members.

I don't take myself too seriously and I enjoy a laugh and a good debate but I treat everyone just as I would if I were talking to them face to face. I'd expect others to do the same to me, not slag me off and hide behind some bullshit fake name just because it's the internet and I can't see them.

Please excuse me guys if you think I'm out of line - I welcome the criticism, honestly :) Just don't bag me about my purple car or I'll be round at yours carving my initials into your sidewalls!!!! ;)

Seriously now I think I'm going to have to put my hand up next time there's a call for mods here. Then I can play good cop, bad cop on all you rude buggers to my heart's content.

End rant - nothing to see here!

Cheers

Maybe, but that is what it came from the factory with and that is what, for this particular vehicle, it should keep therefore.

Yes, I can assume BMW sent a lot of M3s from the factory with white 'ricer' gauges.

Unless you have a positive comment to make, or a genuine enquiry for regarding this vehicle then do not bother to post. You may contact Jeff Grey for any other information. All other posts will get the poster banned.

CamB: Do not make comments regarding what you think the value of the car is worth, we do not care and you may have a detrimental affect on the sale of the car (all of which is in a public forum and is classed as slanderous)

Thanks.

There is something not honest with this persons comment. I will explain :

I have only just driven this E30M3 Cabrio into Jeff Gray BMW Wellington to sell on my familiy's behalf.

I drove it in and my wife picked me up in our Volvo a couple of days ago.

There seems to be a lot of envy here.

Folks who are not interested or cannot afford should please quit making disparaging comments.

CamB for whatever reason, which to me does not seem to illustrate BMW club ethos, wants to bag this car. He is out of line.

Edit: And I have NEVER offered this car for sale before so I simply do not understand CamB's rhetoric.

Anyone that wants to know about me and/or this car can contact most of the senior people in the NZ BMW Club or contact the senior people on this board.

I do not appreciate this silly carry on. This is a quality car without par.
