850 Csi Manual

Recommended Posts

Cool however it has had leaky shocks and looks like its made a sh*t of a mess under there. Im not joking when I say my 330i underneath is cleaner than that. Its at 113000ks ... just a constructive observation dude..

Its the camera...its all different shades of underseal....you need to see it in the flesh Josh

Brad came and looked at it today...he was like....

its quite comforting(i mean that sincerely) that you can just order up parts for such a rare car that is nearly 20 years old!.

I do agree that it does need a steam clean underneath to bring it up to nice condition, but it isn't that bad at all. It doesn't have a spot of rust!

Kiwi535 - there are 4 in the country now. A red one in Tauranga, a black one in Auckland, my one and this silver one.

http://www.carfax.co.nz/car/?plate=brg755

http://www.carfax.co.nz/car/?plate=VN5576

As you can see the red one hasn't been on the road in a little while now. I have the guys details but he isn't responding at all. I hope he simply hasn't died or anything. The red one was one of the Singapore delivered ones, the other Singapore car is in Aus. The black one is ex UK like mine.

Mr E34 - it isn't a fantasy price. In the USA good condition 850CSi's with a lot more mileage have sold for US$70k or more. Obviously in NZ the market might be different, but remember you are talking about a V12 6 speed manual coupe that cost over $330k when new! This car has only done 20000km and looks like it is a year old. It is in fantastic overall condition and is insanely rare.

Eddy - the Sultan had 3 850's. He had an 850CSi, a normal 850i and an Alpina B12 in RHD. The Alpina was sold a few years ago in the UK for over 70000 pounds! It had only travelled 1200 miles or something completely rediculous. They only made 57 Alpina B12 5.7's and only 4 of those were RHD. All of those 4 were unique, they were all different colours etc. Two of them had the shifttronic option.

Ohh and as for me buying it....if it was black and had done 20000km I would beg, borrow and steal to get it. However to be honest it didn't do it for me in silver. If I had the choice between spending $80k or so to buy this car, or to spend $35k on mine (plus the $45k it already owes me) I would definitely spend the money on mine. Techno Violet plus Lotus White leather is completely unique and darker colours suit the E31 shape much better imho.

However if the price ends up being $40k or something, I will buy it!

Hi Glenn, there is one 850csi in the UK for sale, 1994 done 100,000 miles, asking 16,750 pounds.

Apparently it was the BMW press car, orient blue, fully loaded etc.

The one that just sold on Pistonheads must have been a bargain @ 11,000 pounds. (the one i posted on this thread)

I don't think so. The E39 is more practical for daily driver, the 850csi was a limited edition( very rare numbers) run to give credibility to the failed E31 range. It's low volume makes it worth something, who knows what it is worth in NZ.

When money changes hands then we will know, money talks, bullshit walks.

E39's are everywhere, people will mistake an M5 for a piece of crap 520 with M badges

If you see an E31 coming, you know it is special!

A bit light on the Sultan there Brad,

Here's a list (1997 ish) of the BMW's the Sultan of Brunei had, over 50 E31's he is now reported to have well over 5,000 different cars.

Like a lot of people I would love an 850 csi or better still an Alpina B12 E31.... Never mind I will just have to stick to my 840 ci Sport Individual 4.4l.

This list was made up in 1997 and had a number of errors including a B12 E31 that is actually a B12 750 4 door, (Alpina used B12 for both 8 and 7 series just as the used B10 for the 5 and 6 (E24) cars).

This list has since been cleaned up and all the E31's validated by Jud who runs the E31 Project out of the US.

with that many cars in the garage, i wonder if he (the sultan)

ran his own bimmer race series?

good job though for the boy who has to maintain the data base on which car needs a WOF etc

does the sultan only drive BMW, or does he also collect the other 20 or so manufactures????

so many questions

Even if I had his kind of money I wouldn't buy that many cars. I suppose its just like collecting stamps but I wouldn't do that either.

It has been said that he has at least 3,000 to 6,000 cars and has bought over U.S.$4 billion worth of cars. The number purchased by his business interests and the number actually used by himself and his family differ greatly.

The Daily Mirror (UK) reported on October 26, 2007 that the Sultan owned 531 Mercedes Benzs, 367 Ferraris, 362 Bentleys, 185 BMWs, 177 Jaguars, 160 Porsches, 130 Rolls-Royces, and 20 Lamborghinis .

He's also bought many operational one-off concept cars from Ferrari, Bentley etc.

A bit ridiculous IMO. I think his cars are worth about 20% of his net worth.

Maintenance costs would be massive.
