1996 316i Compact factory headunit??

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, New to this forum.

I have just purchased a NZ new 96 316i Compact and want to replace the head unit with something that will play cd's.

From my limited knowledge tho it looks like the factory head unit is a really strange size, like alot wider than any of the new ones that i have seen.

Has anyone had a problem finding something to fit in its place or am i worrying for no reason.

Ill will attempt to get a picture up of the factory unit.

Thanks, Joe

Any audio head unit will fit with adaptors and wiring kit.

Paralell Imports for a head unit Repco for the wiring kit & aerial adaptors

Or see your local sparkie

Thanks for the quick reply. So its nothing to worry about.

Im assuming the adaptors are like pieces of plastic that fill in the extra space and hold the new one in place.

The wiring kit: I have read a few threads on them so should be able to sort that out.

What are the aerial adapters for?

And does anyone have any units that they would stay away from? Im only looking at cheapies, only requirement is an aux in or ipod connectivity.

The aerial plugs are different. You can buy adaptors

I put one of these in mine Clicky , Its back lighting and everything is a nice shade of orange the exact same colour as everything else around it and as a bonus just put all your songs on a usb stick and plug it in. I think i have over 1500 songs on mine, way to much i could ever listen to in one drive

Thanks Presso, that thing looks really good for the price. Would be nicer if it took the aux port as i chop and change what im listening to all the time.

What are the controls like for playing music off the memory stick?
