540i/6 E34 in New Zealand

Recommended Posts

The following cars was exported to New Zealand;

314 Hellrot; 3 cars, 1 MY 1994 and 2 MY 1996 (the later both with M Pack)

276 Avusblau metallic; 3 cars (all with M Pack and all MY 1995)

299 Techno-Violett metallic; 3 cars (MY 1995)

303 Cosmosschwarz metallic; 2 cars (MY 1995)

305 Petrol-Mica metallic; 2 cars (MY 1995)

324 Oxfordgrün metallic; 1 car (MY 1995)

237 Granitsilber metallic; 1 car, MY 1994)

309 Arktissilber metallic; 1 car (MY 1996 with M Pack)

This means that all the six RHD M Sport Package went to New Zealand.

Every car except the 2 last doesn't have Catalyst converter.

I run the VIN:s on http://www.carjam.co.nz/

And found the following cars;

BK35011 -940328 (MY 1994) Hellrot/Black leather - 216873km Oct-09

BK35012 -940407 (MY 1994) Granitsilber metallic/Silvergrey leather - 240177km

Oct-09

BK35029 -940609 (MY 1995) Oxfordgrün metallic/Silvergrey leather - 257427km

Sep-09

BK35033 -940706 (MY 1995) Cosmosschwarz metallic/Black leather - 357174km Nov-09

BK35074 -941031 (MY 1995) Petrol-Mica metallic/Black leather - 160414km +

45746km = 206160km Feb-09

BK35078 -941104 (MY 1995) Petrol-Mica metallic/Parchment leather - 212976km

Dec-04. Yes 2004.

BK35081 -941108 (MY 1995)Avusblau metallic/ Light Silver grey leather - 133322km

Nov-09 (this car has M Sport Package and is the only Avus/Light Silvergrey

leather!)

BK35082 -941109 (MY 1995) Techno-Violett metallic/Light Silvergrey leather -

405548km Dec-09

BK35095 -941206 (MY 1995) Techno-Violett metallic/Light Silvergrey leather -

147842km + 16328km = 164170km Jan-10

BK35134 -950302 (MY 1995) Techno-Violett metallic/Black leather - 92565km Aug-09

BK35169 -950424 (MY 1995) Cosmosschwarz metallic/Black leather - 189947km Oct-09

BK35181 -950508 (MY 1995) Avusblau metallic/Silvergrey leather - 263733km Jul-09

(with M Sport Package, only 6 RHD 540i/6 was built with 337 M Sport Package, all

went to NZ=).

BK35184 -950512 (MY 1995) Avusblau metallic/Silvergrey Leather - 193460km Feb-09

with M Sport Package.

BK35224 -950706 (MY 1996) Hellrot/Black leather - 129273km Jan-10. With M Sport

Package, last car without catalyst converter.

BK35250 -950913 (MY 1996) Arktissilber metallic/Black leather - 231070km Sep-09.

This is the only RHD Arktissilber with M Sport Package, has catalyst converter.

The last car is extrem, I have never seen a lower mileage on a 540i/6=)It also

the very last 540i/6 with M Sport Package, beats my sold LHD #788/797

Arktissilber/Black leather with a week.

BK35261-951031 (MY 1996) Hellrot/Black leather - 17308km Apr-09.

When a car change owners in NZ does it change licence plate? Is that a clue to

know how many owners a car has?

I found a Japanese RHD 540iA Limo in Arktisgrau that was exported to NZ. And

more interesting the VERY first built 540iA Touring RHD is in NZ, never

registered anywhere else before. Even that it's a UK-Version. Unique being in

309 Arktissilber metallic but built Dec-1993. GB64000 is the VIN. EDK83 is the

licence plate. Picture of that car is very interesting. and of course every

540i/6. Got pics from the owner of BK35081 and he help with the link to check

VIN:s.

Regards Stephan

PS; One more question, was there a catalyst converter law in September of 1995

in New Zealand?

The only Calypsorot metallic HE52 540i/6 with Black leather was also registered in NZ, a Australian Limited Edition, but crasched last year (;

The total number of Calypsorot HE52 is 16, 8 of them are Limited Edition. The rest sold in UK.

Regards

Stephan

No, the licence plate stays the same.

Exceptions to this are if the previous owner had a personalised plate and they wanted to keep their personalised plate.

In that case they would change the personalised plate back to a Government issue plate.

Wow, that's some serious info for the archives!

Anyone got a pic of a petrol mica E34? I've seen an E36, and it's to die for.

I actually asked Stephan to send this question through to us as he asked the same question of a M635 mate of mine in Melbourne who forwarded the query to me.

Do you guys know where some of these cars are?

This is what I know:

2 of the avus blau cars are in Auckland -one has the plate blu m5 and has a huge, noisy, tunnel-like exhaust and was for sale in Glenfield 4-5 years ago. The other blue Auckland car has around 260 kms and gets work done at BM workshop in Botany. The last avus blu car is a minter and was documented on this site when it came up for sale in CCh recently at A & S. All have Style 5's and only have a solitary m badge on the rear.

The three technoviolet examples - Simon's in HB, the one in Auckland which was ex -WBOP and is also owned by one our members here (is it Hell BM?), and wasn't the other violet car owned by someone's uncle in Auckland and discussed some time in the last year?? (Without the Style 5's).

I know of a beautiful hell rot example that was for sale at Beech European 4-5 years ago, and there is one in Hamilton as well - not sure if it is the same car......style 5's and 540i badging on the rear. Stunning in red too.

Does anyone know of the the freak low km hell rot example? 17,ooo kms - it would have to be an ocassional weekend driver.... Wow!

I knew of Cain's old Calypso 540 LE as well.

It will be interesting if any of you know where some of these other cars are around the country....

But Paul Hackett had a Hellrot 540/6 with cloth seats in front.

So how does that fit in?

I saw BK35033 out in Porirua yesterday she's getting a new clutch. This one has seen better days (would make a good race ;) car).

It has an interesting history between Auckland and Wellington. The workshop say it's a bit of a "Cristine" with more than one of it's owners ending up in jail!!

Here is one of the 20 built HE51 in 305 Petrol-Mica metallic as an standard color (there are one more, but it's an early 1995 and has the color as Individual, a very special car. It has bi-color Nappa leather black/barbadosgreen + wood panels covered in Barbadosgreen leather, sorry no pics).

Petrol-Mica was only for V8 and Executive E34:s model year 1995 and 1996. No 540i/6 in that color to North America.

Here are the road test of the South-African 540i/6 E34.

They had a problem with the limiter, hence the low top speed.

I think I saw the 540 Touring today has a PP

Is that the silver/grey one? With the PP PAINTR or PAINTER?

Is quite often parked on the side of the road just up from mine.

It is actually used/owned by a house painter.

Hi

New to this forum. Did one of those inane web searches for my chassis number when online using the Real OEM site to search for a part and came up with this discussion.

Thought I'd join up a I have owned e34 540i/6 BK35169 since 08.2006.

Cosmosschwartz metallic, leder bison/ schwartz, ASC, M sport sus, etc.

I love this car. An ongoing project and a keeper. Inside very tidy, outside some paint required but presentable. Mechanically very thoroughly maintained.

It's just turned over 200K km with ease

Keen to share knowledge and parts info on this car with other owners
