Good luck man, Know how ya feel.

Ive given up 3 times, and beer has been my downfall every time. Beer+durry and coffee+durry are built in to my brain...

Nicotine sucks ass. Ive tried everything too, have a whole bag full of patches and gum, and about $300US worth of e-cigs and cartridges, and im still an addicted wanker. None of it works. Gum tastes so fricken bad you need to have a durry just to get rid of the taste! Patches give me hellish headaches, E-cigs dont fix the problem either.

You guys rekon that book is the go then? Ill go hunt it down, It better be one fockin good read! :D

Stay strong man, If your anything like me I play silly little head games with myself and convince myself that just one more is a good idea.... <_<

Of course gum and all that sh*t doesn’t work, all you are essentially doing is quitting Nicotine, how does giving yourself nicotine to quit nicotine make sense? The only way to quit is to get it out of your system and keep it out, cutting down doesn’t help, there is no variation of addiction be it a 5 a day smoker of a 40 a day smoker, the addiction is the same.

No one smokes for the taste or because they are board they smoke because they are a drug addict, take the nicotine away from cigarettes and there would be no smokers, they don’t relax you they simply feed your addiction to the drug making you feel relaxed for 10 minutes.

If you want to actually quite read the book properly, finish it, I read it in two day and was cured of my addiction.

It the head games that get you, thats what the book eliminates, or at least helps you cope with. Get into that book Glen - read it every night, you will find that it helps maintain the motivation.

GL Glenn, I know how hard it was for my grandparents when they gave up.

But I'm giving up coke... 4L a day isn't so good for you after a while :(

I actually had difficulty sleeping... Turns out you sleep real well if you don't drink masses of caffine all day.

How're your teeth mate? 5 litres of coke a day for 6 years killed mine.

I tried quitting a few months ago. Found myself getting really angry at every little thing which wouldn't even cross my mind before. Stopped cold turkey for 4 days and then gave up. Am now smoking way less but still should probably stop all together.

Good luck fella.

Problem is you’re getting angry because your body wants drugs, not because you are actually angry, having a smoke just rewards the bug. It’s really easy to justify starting again to calm the bug down. It goes away after a couple of weeks.. Even after quitting for 10 months I find as soon as I have a big night and scab a few fags that anger you speak of rears its ugly head a few days later, normally directed at the wrong person and it’s at that stage I think I could start again… It’s a tricky drug and it finds its way in very fast, its easy to get addicted too, one smoke and your addicted and in a state of nicotine withdrawal, it’s as easy to quit too though once you re programme your thinking.

ah yep, did the cold turkey thing February 2006 and haven't looked back

I found the first 3 days the worst

next couple of weeks was tough

but once I got to a month it was going really well

after 2 months I didn't have any cravings and was able to hang out with my mates who smoke (in the house too :()

I actually found the worst part was when I watched TV or a movie and one of the characters is smoking (hint, don't watch Band of Brothers for the next few months)

Graham is right on the money with everything he has said here

if you get in the right mindset, you can do it

my old boss, she gave up so she could have a 2nd child

she gave up for a total of 2 years, and then one day at work she started smoking again because her friend had just been hired in the same office and is a smoker; my boss wanted to socialise with her friend every hour and the only way she thought she could do that was to go have a smoke

weak

I havn't smoked for 2.5 months now either Glenn, you will defiantly notice the difference after the first two weeks.

I carry a bottle of water with me everywhere. If I ever feel like a cig i just drink water. I find it hard to not smoke when Im drinking so havn't been drinking as much either. All up on average been saving around 130 per week on smokes and booze..

This has given me the opportunity to go to Metallica in Adelaide. Something I wouldn't have been able to do if I was still smoking. When you start to see the benefits of not having them you will wonder why the hell you did it all those years!

Good on you Glenn, GOod luck mate!

P.S Graham is on the money really. It's all a mindset!

Good luck Glenn!

My grandad stopped smoking before he was nearly 70, because he had the goal of seeing me graduate uni. If you set yourself a goal other than how much money you'll save, i'm sure you'll be better motivated. I know its damn hard to quit, as all my uncles smoke, and they still havent stopped after years of nagging.

Thanks Chris and everyone else.. I haven't purchased cigarettes since last week... had my last on Monday morning at 3.00am .. havent touched one since. Last night was hard going though, kept waking up with the hot & colds. Glad I got a nap yesterday arvo. I feel like crap ATM & I'm home a bit early again.. even so its nearly 3.00pm and I got to work at 4.30am. I agree with Graham too , I'm reading the book and I'm not using any substitutes

Good stuff Glen.

Two types of people in this world - Smokers and non- Smokers. Once your mindset exists as a non- Smoker it all becomes clear. Discard the terms quiting, giving up and ex (they`re likened to cutting a limb off, very painful). `Non Smoker` has a great feel to it.

Sweet ... I did cold turkey 3 times ... with 2 year gaps in between.

Have remained quit for nearly two years this time around and will remain so as I have no interest in starting again.

The first 2 weeks are pretty rough, But it does get easier. Its just a mind set that you have to set yourself the goal of not smoking.

1 month mark youll start to get your smell/taste back (youll know what I mean :D )

3 month mark youll start to stop thinking about them .. and if you can hold out on the 6 month 'F**k it ill just have one itll be sweet' mark then youll be home free.

The next thing after this is youll actually start to hate smokers ... it f**ken reeks hahaha
