Recommended Posts

Today I removed the engine and diff from the 328i I picked up a couple weeks ago. Shells of to the scrappers this week

Managed to find and pickup up some cams I was after too, now to set some time aside to put together this b30

First M3 finished. Not 100% happy with it, but I'd say a reasonable 7/10 attempt. It was intended as a kind of practicse before I attempt the more expensive / detailed kit that I bought.

318Ci:
Took it for the airbag recall
Cleaned up the 18x8.5 rims (and near-new tyres)
Refitted the 'big' wheels

All in the name of getting it ready for sale. Kind of a shame as it is a nice car, but it doesn't fulfill the design brief for Miss M - they have some BIG speed humps at Uni and this doesn't much like them.
And it's not as if I'd planned to buy this one at this time anyway!

Oh - took it CJ in Hamilton today too, and had the airbag recall sorted.

Wasn't today, early Saturday evening I unwillingly took mine on a short offroad expedition...... Think it needs a bit of a wash and a polish to clean it back up ???

I'm guessing that was to do the oil pump nut and you dropped the subframe instead of pulling the engine?  I need to do this myself and wondering if this is easier than pulling the engine - which is very easy on these cars (when you have no A/C to worry about).

You are correct. I have a hoist which helps but still pretty easy to do

Around an hour with a cuppa in hand to get the sump off

I imagine you could do it with AC in place if you really wanted to

Second M3 finished. This one was a bit easier, firstly it's a 1:18th scale so the model is larger, and second it is a pre-built die cast model. All I had to do was to stick the "JPS" logos on (as these are not on the original due to the ban on cigarette adveritsing - and it doesn't look right without). However, as I had taken some time to build up the courage to put the stickers on, the glue had gone a bit funny between the stickers and the backing paper - so there was a bit of fiddling about that had to be done!

fitted a Powerflex suspension arm bush in the front of the M5,  will do the other one tomorrow night which should go a lot quicker than the first! The rubber bushes were totally flogged and the ball joints are getting a bit loose so i will have to put a pair of new arms on my list for Santa.

I've found that one suspension bush a day is about my limit, too!

I should know better by now! the nut on the second balljoint decided to strip, so it was a PITA to get off and now i have to get a new locknut. ?

Sounds like your "disease" is catching though.

I must confess I seem to have bought a few more sets of wheels since drinking coffee with you on Sundays... Coinkydink..? Maybe, maybe not.

And you could nearly throw a wheel between your two houses!

Maybe it's contagion by proximity?

If so, I'm soon.
