Recommended Posts

Taking a look at this tonight (or afternoon if the boss is a good sort :D ):

BMW 528i TradeMe Ref# 348630094

Just thought I'd run it through you guys first to see what you think. He's willing to let it go for 8k (absolute lowest).

Just would like your thoughts and please be brutally honest lol

Play it safe and get a proper prepurchase inspection by either a BMW Dealer or Independant BMW Specialist.

NO ONE ELSE

I recently sold a 1996 540i with 110ks for $8k It was fully speced with TV, iPod integration etc - I assume this 528i has the 'standard' Business stereo only ?

Also that car is Ex Singapore, and I know this may be flamed on here, but my brother had an ex Singapore E39 and had LOTS of electrical gremlins. ( It was a 540i Motorsport and he ended up getting rid of it for $6K after $$$$ spent on repairs )

Other than that, seems tidy, but you may be able to find higher spec car for similar money.

You should have stood at the gate and thrown that money out onto the road

Hey mate, dont let being a Singapore import put you off.

But just make you you keep and eye out for all the signs its probably got issues electrically. So just make you, yourself, check things like the windows and most other electrical things as for all the electrics under the hood probably take it too BMW themselves to have a look at. I have owned two Singapore BMW's now and none of them have had a single problem except for the usual wear and tear items. They are still great cars, just got to choose them a little bit more carefully. Good luck with the purchase the silver one looks good, has the same wheels as mine :)

Thanks for that advice Ryan.

Yeah as soon as everyone started warning me about Singapore imports, I franticly started searching through the forums and TradeMe for suggestions and alternatives.

Yeah I'm really looking forward to seeing it in person and hopefully everything is what it says it is. Ever since I started looking at BMWs and joined the forums Ive been itching to get one myself

Haha so true!!

I once got an AA inspection on an E36.

They thought the chronic rust under both tail lights was "dirt".

Luckily they refunded the cost of an inspection after a fight.

Back on topic - that's a nice looking E39!

PHEW! Saved myself $160 of AA Inspection. After checking out the car, I'm happy to report that my search continues.

I am currently looking at this now. Thoughts?

Also, this time I will send the car to an independent BMW specialist to look over it. Could anyone suggest any places in Wellington?

Thanks for all the help thus far

hehehe insurence , Gotta love the spelling, but wait there's more you get a free ps2 thrown in for free, Now thats the deal breaker.

My advice would be not to rush, Have a real good look around and always go for a good drive so you know you feel comfortable in it and course a proper check by bmw.

Thanks for that Jason.

Yeah, trying not to rush into it eh. Am fairly certain I'm after a 528i and would prefer it to have a sunroof. However I would be happy purchasing this one (granted everything is ok).

Just waiting to see what other members recommend for a Wellington BMW Specialist to take a look over the car.

Lol, that was hardcase eh

Looks like a high specced Jap car. If it checks out ok - go for it. It has toys that can be got going too - nav etc

You can even run the PS2 in the car too :)

The 520 may be a bit underwhelming. The e39 is a heavyish car...heavy cars, auto trans and small engines are not a good mix in Wellington.
