I wondered what you were doing with that m5 yesterday.

Oh and I got the instrument lights going on the touring today. Just wasn't earthed for some reason.

What a combination!

Is that the floor of the M5's shell hanging below the drivers door?

im enjoying the thought process: ill change the engine to suit the number plate instead of changing the numberplate to suit the car!

Weapon! been waiting a long time for this :)

Should be a cool project to get on with. I can now srap the turboed M62 idea and work on an end result something like this:

Where did the M5 come from? Not many Sliverstone Blue E39 M5's in NZ.

Local (Nth Shore) with full service history.

S62 extracted from donor car. Included pic of air intake with cover off for the sake of curiosity.

Some M5/M3 comparisons.Huge unladen car weight difference and only a 10 kg. extra in engine weight.

M5: 1826 kg

M3: 1575 kg

BMW AG quotes (90% fuel tank + 68 kg driver + 7 kg for luggage + standard trim )

Max. Output:

M5-294/400 (KW/bhp) @ 6600 rpm

M3- 252/343 (KW/bhp) @7900 rpm

M5- 500 Nm @ 3800 rpm

M3- 365 Nm @4900

Final drive ratio:

M5: 3.15

M3: 3.62

An E46 M3 convertible only 1310kg?

Thanks for pointing that out. Revised figures are

M5: 1826 kg

M3: 1575 kg

BMW AG quotes (90% fuel tank + 68 kg driver + 7 kg for luggage + standard trim )

Aprox. 250 kg difference should seriously impact the power to weight ratio.
