1987 E30 M325i Tech I

Recommended Posts

I thought it was about time I started a project thread to document what I have already done and what I plan to do to my E30. Hopefully it'll give me a little motivation to get thru the list of items that require attention.

When I brought it 6 months ago it was running a little rough. After a quick trip to the Park Road E30 Performance Centre, the problem was quickly resolved. The distributor cap had a huge crack so that was promptly replaced and now runs like a dream.

Items that no longer require attention:

Oil change,

Fitted a SA spec boot lining and half a tool kit <_< ,

Replaced the sump that had a hairline crack,

Removed the superlow springs in the rear that were not captive and replaced them with some lows,

Fitted E36 window switches,

Items that require attention:

Insert items listed on back of Heineken box here...

Here are some photos on the day I aquired the car.

Enjoy

Looks awesome.

Only thing I'd change is to run a stock chrome rimed grill again. I think the chrome/black contrast helps to make it look more interesting, matching the other stainless/chrome bits.

Each to their own of course.

Very nice and tidy! Same colour as my one. As well as going back to a crome grill, that aerial needs to go.

yeah i used to have it too on my black E30, and dont mind it on white ones either, but other colours i dont for some reason, though in that case, i vote you smoke the headlights then! thats not a very hard job to do, you just need to disassemble the headlights, make up some crosshairs and put them in and then put back together. dont paint the glass thats the whorey way to do it. there is a write up on E30tech how to do it.

Well shes pretty much been in storage for 5 years with house, baby and work taking priority.

Other than the odd drive and clean very little has been achieved.

Yesterday I replaced the rear sub frame and the control arm bushes which were completly shot! Bit of a job but got there in the end.

What a different car now. No shimmy in the rear that i have to counteract when hooking gears at 6 grand ?

Next on the list, a front wheel bearing.

Onwards and upwards!

Cheers

Hey mate, do you still have this car?

Any progress made?

Yep, still have it sitting in the garage. No further progress.

Am looking for an E46 M3 so it could well be on the market soon...
