Lost keys need advice

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Its been a while since I posted on here, as many of you know I have been philandering around the UK and Europe for the last 3 years but the time has come for me to come back to catch up with family and sort a few things out while I'm back.

One of those things being my BMW, Dads had it stored away for me while I have been gone and in his wisdom/stupidity/shear laziness has misplaced the keys for it. The boots open but the rest of the cars locked, any ideas if I can order a new key from BMW? Can this be sourced via the number plate or do i need the chassis number? Can i find that anywhere else on the car on the outside?

Good to be back and Hello to all!

Cheers

Riley

Not sure if it's true for E30s, but for a lot of cars the code for the keys is written on the locks. So might just be a case of taking the bootlock to a locksmith?

Lost mine for E34 once. Went to the dealer with chassis number and proof of ownership, got the key mold number then took to a local key cutter who can cut bmw keys.

Thats all assuming you got the original locks and ignition in the car

Chassis no. is under the bonnet. Insert a screw driver thru the grill on the left-hand side by the headligts. Locate the slotted hole in the bonnet catch and twist. Bonnet will open.

A BMW design for release cable failure.

A fulla I knew once had many cars that he lost all the keys for but he managed with a screwdriver in the barrel. Worked a treat.

If you don't want to waste your time on opening the bonnet, I'm pretty sure the VIN comes up on CarJam when you enter your number plate.
