E36 M3 Targa Car Build

Recommended Posts

Some installed signage pics.

Went for the in heritage look (ish).

Looks ok'ish.

Will look better with a black (glass) bonnet and boot which is planned for next year (weight loss program).

I came here to say exactly the same thing.

What's the background on those Noel? Did I miss a post?

I brought them in from England, Geoff Steel racing. They were not that expensive at 190 pounds for the pair, however the freight was a killer :(

Its certainly a ''luxury' extra, but it really finishes the car off well.

I also had Dan Slater the fabricator trim and fit them to ensure a top notch final finish.

Also got a sheet of Carbon/Alu honeycomb which we cut down for the drivers false floor.

Photo is not the best

Whats that white box strapped to the roll cage behind your seats? Something to do with the radio? That's another great idea btw

The box is a mil spec ( water proof) hard wire kit for the gopro. The gopro runs no battery. This allows reboots if it plays up. That's the untested theory anyway.

It will get a GT spoiler next year with riser blocks.

The M3's first outing was a success. On Targa South island with 800kms of racing and 1800kms of touring the only issues were:

> Blown cig lighter fuse

> Lose horn button wire (after market button)

> CV boot getting loose.

3rd in class, 43rd overall from 117 cars (easy start while i got used to it)

However, she needs more power and needs a diet. Standbye....

I feel stink for Steve KB thou.

Even though his overall time would put him into 2nd place (from memory) he wasn't elgible for a prize as he missed the minimum number of stages run due to his breakdown

Hah! Don't be sorry man. I'm happy with the event, checking the crank pulley bolt wasn't something I would have ever thought of checking so I'm not beating myself up... Learn something new every time. My aim for the event was to surprise a few people and get a top three stage time, just scraped through with that one even tho we almost came to a stand still to check my brother was OK! That's why I'm happy :P

Finishing in a newly built car with no issues is a credit to your build. Bring on next year!

Not sure in regards to power, I reckon concentrate on getting it down to min weight. You'll be quicker every where, the straights, corners and braking. The way I see it power only gets you one of those?

I got a quote for a UK sourced S54 race motor, 450hp 3.4 stoker.

Will need to sell the house, get divorced, sell a leg and rob a bank (all of that) for that to happen!

Finally got around to installing the chip i purchased off ebay.

Bit of a PITA getting to the ECU, but got there in the end.

Test drive went ok, but its always a pretty minor gain with NA.

Will re-dyno at torque shortly and compare before and after.
