DME Compatibility

Hi,

I've done some research and people seem to bypass EWS and put the older Red Label 413 DME into their cars. However I am asking about the reverse:

My e36 had a Red Label 413 DME and my friend has a Silver Label 413 DME (EWS) spare that I could use - will this work? Or do I have to use another Red Label?

i think you may be reading on USA based websites.

from memory the silver type is EWS, so if you want to use silver type you will need to retrofit EWS in too.

may get an insurance discount???? but otherwise not worth the hassle probably

If it's EWS-I you can bypass it by cutting a wire.

actually, it probably will work, if you put it into a car that doesn't have any EWS gear.

Bosch Red Label 0261200413. The silver one has the same Bosch number. Chassis is JA91352.

I was thinking the same as antil33t - that the EWS from the silver would have nothing to talk to anyway?

No it's not Josh... It's the Bosch part number. The BMW part number should be on the label as well though.

The EWS DME needs to get a signal from the EWS control unit to switch. I suggest the OP puts in the correct DME

Thats what im after ... the BMW part number .. I cant advise with out the BMW part number and I cant compare software types without it. The Bosch number is useless to me.

So it still stands Glenn, the part number is invalid.

Hugokan: Your welcome to PM me a photo of the label if you like. You should have a programming and part number label affixed to the top. Unless it has been replaced at some stage. If so youll be looking for a yellow label with "tauschteil' affixed on it.
