Vinyl painting

Recommended Posts

Have had a very reasonable quote to redo the headlining in my car and probably going to opt for black or charcoal grey. But the contractor quote to repaint the light grey interior fixings (grab rail, sun visors, coat hooks, etc) was ridiculous ($300 for 2 visors, one grab rail and two small coat hooks).

As a result I'm going to repaint the interior fixings myself and wondered if anyone's got any experience or good advice on technique and products.

Was looking at the Duplicolor range that Supercheap stock (they do a flat black and charcoal grey). I notice VHT do a range as well - anyone tried both?

I have used duplicolour with good results.

Key is clean parts. Like cleaner than anything you have ever seen then clean it some more. Silicon based interior protectants are a nightmare to remove and impossible to paint over.

Thanks both.

Jason, what do you recommend for cleaning? Acetone will get rid of any silicon residue but also probably melt the plastic a bit... Rubbing alcohol and an old toothbrush?

Hit soapy water followed by a couple of thorough wipe downs with wax and grease remover.

Once clean of protectants should look abit sad and faded like noone has maintained the plastic over the years.

Or cook meth as previously sugested.
