Dude, that rotor!

I bet it gave you a hell of a fright!

Did you have any duct tape with you or did you have to flatbed it home?

Picked up a trailer from Hirepool Sunday, Elton was nice enough to allow me to store the car in one of the garages overnight.

should have picked up some amazon-free-shipping-rotors!!

Very funny

The real worry is the Rotors looked great, at a glance you wouldn't notice the any spider cracks on the face. And as I said I had my face right in there looking when I attached the Temperature strip.

That is really scary, and could have written the car off or severely injured the driver or both.

I wonder how common that is?

I was lucy,  I'd basically finished my braking and was about to turn in.

if I'm reading my data correctly 139km/h down to 60km/h in 62mtrs ..............  so not so scary at the time

Is it a manufacturing fault, do you think?

Has this brand or other brands been known to do this under just trackday pressure?

Nathan it has happened before to RB and other manufacturers, but my rotors looked in great condition

So after I sent RB, as much info and photos as I could and offered to send higher resolution photos if required

This is an excerpt from Racingbrakes response

"To assure driving safety, track racing should not be rely on "track miles" or number of events, rather it's the driver's responsibility to have the brake inspected "prior" and "after" each event, and periodic replacement on pad and disc is recommended before a potential brake failure can occur"

I replied with

The info I provided, total miles, total track time etc

The photos are (worth a thousand words) of, Ring condition and thickness, pad condition, Hat temperature and failure areas etc

The links to my build threads was to show you how anal, I am with my cars maintenance and performance .

All the above was provided to you to help analyze what went wrong. With the idea that I would receive a logical explanation as to why this happened and some reassurance going forward that it was safe to use your produce again.

The best response I got was from a M3Cutters member Iain,

His comment was that I had put approx 35 trackday heat cycles through the rotors, which I hadn't thought of.

I worked out that I have done 7 trackdays, approx 5 sessions a day,  so between 745-600 km.

New rotors look nice... is the 2mm increase inconsequential to the caliper bracket?

Only 1mm to the radius, the fun was trying to find a rotor that matched the sweep area and "C" measurement. "C" measurement is distance between bottom of the sweep area and bottom of rotor face.

Drivers training Hampton Downs 9th June

Thanks again Dave the rack worked well at HD.

But it's back to the drawing board with my twin fuel pump system.

In the final session I had fuel stravation coming out of turn 1 and turn 3.

Filled up again at Pokeno 43ltrs. So roughly 20ltrs left when stravation started.

Didn't set a personal best this time 1.17.7 (I may have peaked ?)

Are you using a surge tank?

No Andy,

I've replaced the siphon with a pump (on the passengers side) feeding the drivers side pump bowl.

HD last Saturday was very fine and very cold only 3C :excl:

Had a lot of fun with a number of other Bimmers out there.

An interesting wear pattern on my front left inside. (ran the same camber settings as June -3.5,

But I was naughty as I didn't check the temps or pressures after first setting them at 35 cold, but by the hand omiter they were only ever just warm to the touch.

New Best Time 1.17.17

1.17 that's not to shabby. pretty good actually.

got no answer for the wear on your tire. But 35 cold is quite high.

But tire pressure is voodoo science at the best of times.

Ill be heading down to Hamptons next Saturday for a "test" day with my new set up..

Don't forget the  .1  ? Richard.

I'm stoked as my analysing of my June visit to HD said that 1.17.3 was my theoretical best lap.

After Julys visit my new theoretical best lap time is 1.16.4

I may get one more driver training if it's a very fine day on my existing rubber.

But a new set of rubber, is on my shopping list.

Hope all goes well on Saturday for you

What are you using for lap times? I am happy to have a look and possibly give some pointers where you may find some time if you can give me a .vbo or anything that works with track attack.

Hi James

Aim Solo - to capture gps data, it provides a file  .drk

Race Studio 2 - for analysing,  gps speed, gps longitude and latitude.

I also export it to google earth to check lines.

If you can give me the gpk and drk files from the session I can compare it to the 1:12's of my E36, also have some 1:13's of a Z3M.

Morning James,

Message me your email, I'm picking if you take the driver(me) out of the equation.

You car compared to mine, weight will be a major contributor.  I haven't had mine on the scales but I would guess it's around the 1480kgs min.

Nik was nice enough to send me one of his sessions (E46) and he was later on the brakes and had better corner speed, but also runs slicks.

A couple of years back I followed a stripped out, roll caged orange E36 328 with a slightly wild cam around HD, it was used in the targa as a lease car. I was very impressed with the speeds it carried through the corners. I was running 1.20 at that stage and couldn't get passed him.

I'm still having heated discussions with my mates about removing weight eg spare wheel, jack, carpet protectors etc. They just don't get the idea that this whole project has been about how quick can a Daily Driver go............

Richard they still have some hardware attached, once I remove my hardware change it over to the new doors then ill do a befoer and after.

First I need to figure out

1/  Paint them before I install any hardware

2/ Install them including hardware, (making sure everthing fits and works) strip them, then have them painted.

2/ seems the right way, for colour matching etc

Looks like they were Estoril blue before being painted silver

The alu shells are ~7kg less each IIRC.

Was a total steal, they can't have known how valuable they actually were.
