Anthony M3 22 Report post Posted March 3, 2015 Recently brought a alcantara shift boot for my e46 m3 only to find on installation that the factory gear knob and leather boot is one piece. Tristan 338 Report post Posted June 16, 2015 Depends if you want to go back to OEM - it isn't uncommon to cut the knob, however I would take the opportunity to move to the ZHP gear knob rather than the factory Gooseneck.
