Another thing that pisses me off lately (since im car shopping), is cars that have been modified for a certain set of wheels (flares, pulled guards etc) and the seller saying "wheels not for sale, BYO wheels". WTF, who wants to buy a car without wheels, let alone one that is set up for a certain size/offset? Putting factory wheels back on would look stupid due to the body mods.

what are you shopping for though? haha

Supercheap is not cheap anymore.  It's almost like Briscoes.  Where if you buy anything from there when there is not a decent 50% off sale going on, you are just being ripped off.

Nothing is cheap in NZ, when you’ve lived outside the matrix.

I'm pretty much an advocate for buying everything online and avoiding local NZ stores now.

And lets be honest.  It's not often you are passing on a NZ owned store.  They are all Aussie stores.

SCA been sh*t for ages, its the usual retail strat of starting off cheap and slowly ramp prices up. Repco is better and cheaper now for bits and pieces. I generally buy tools here in NZ as they arent too badly priced for common stuff and we get decent range. Car parts are the opposite.

Specialist retailers are an exception.  They deserve your consideration.

I thought just about everything in NZ was a franchise, maybe not always locally owned but quite often they are?

Downside though would be the franchise fees would be going to the Aussie mother company in a lot of cases - Bunnings, Harvey Norman, etc.

Definitely not everything. SCA being the perfect example, every store is corporate owned. I have a feeling Bunnings is too

Kinda related.. but when you take your wagon for an 'express service' and when you pick it up they've charged more than twice the 'menu' price cos "your car takes more than 8l of premium oil sir" - WTF!

First of all I haven't been knighted and yes I expect to pay a premium but over twice the amount, c'mon!! The price to pay to not get your hands dirty!

Last time I'm goin in for a pitstop...

Considering you can get an entire Oil change kit with actual premium oil and all the bits required for less than $80usd.

Sounds about right given the starting price is usually for 3.5-4L of mineral\semi synth and basic filter. They wouldn't get as good $ per L on the premium so its probably priced even higher. Changing oil\basic service is the easiest money around for workshops.

Call up wrecker for part, N52 rocker cover, asks for payment ($180) first. Transfer funds, go to pick it up a day later and the part is more busted than the original, so refuse it. 3 weeks later still no refund......

One more day then I rubbish you online.

Gees same thing here.  Looking for hard to find parts for a very rare model 4wd.  So far 5 places that have told me they have the parts have not had them when I have turned up.  I ended up having to buy the parts from Lithuania...  And they arrived quicker than parts I ordered from Hamilton...  with cheaper shipping.  WTF NZ.

Incompetent "customer service reps" at Fedex.

Currently waiting for a useless f**k to submit the invoice i sent through so that customs can clear my FCP Euro order.

Got the same useless f**k on a previous order that took 2 weeks to clear through customs because they didn't submit the invoice I sent to them.

Time to blow their managers phone up...

Most frustrating thing for me was the whole NZCS224 form that (apparently) must be used when purchasing anything with value over $1000. How is Joe Average supposed to know about this, and what happens if (s)he orders something with higher value, without completing the form
And then the palaver about "Who is your customs agent?" comes into play. Why would I need a customs agent? I accept I'm being reamed for tax - just let me pay it!
