Instrument cluster change and tacho / ABS issues

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if someone can help me.

I've transplanted my m52b28 from my E36 328i into an E36 318ti

The issue I have is:

- if I use instrument cluster from 328i the ABS won't work

-if I use the cluster from the ti the Tacho reads wrong thinking there is a 4 cylinder engine in place

so

Is there a way to get the tacho to read right on the ti cluster? or

is there a way to get the ABS to work on the 328i cluster?

thanks

Ask Josh (aka hybrid). He will know what you need to do.

you can get the ti cluster reworked to suit a 6 cyl I know a guy who can do it

other wise , I think the abs has just lost a power signal from the 6cyl cluster ?

Did you have to recode anything when you did the engine swap?. Although an e46 I used the original cluster and had no problems when the engine was changed from the N42 B18 to the M54b25. As Brent mentioned the 4 cylinder clusters can be tweaked to suit.

No recoding. Just swapped ECU and EWS.

I know they can be tweaked... just want to know how I can do it myself if possible :)

When you say the ABS does not work with the 328 cluster, I take it you are referring to the warning light, not the actual ABS?

If it is just the light, check the bulb is working as the ABS warning light wiring to the 328i and 318Ti clusters is the same i.e X17 pin 11.
