I'm a happy camper now. Nice to have some company with another E38 on the boards.

Have you got any other plans for it other than getting it going?

Don't forget to do the valley pan gasket and the coolant pipe that leaks just after you reassemble it ;) They're right there, and I assume you don't want to strip it again  .

Don't overtorque the valley pan gasket bolts (or any of them - partucularly those going into alloy!)

Good job though - I need a frame like your engine lifter thingee - Don't think the rafters in my barn would cope!

Looky Looky Just got the head's back, clean bill of health.

plane the head's new seals and reface the valve and valve seat's.

New gasket set top and bottom.

Still have to order rings bearings and the timing chain kit.

Thanks to Paul at Taylor Automotive real helpful

I'm presuming this is the car you got from the 'friendly' Iranian chap up in Northland?

What did it cost to get the work done on the heads?

I'm surprised Wades has closed - hes been there for ages. What is Taylor automotive like?

So about $4K in machining and parts to recondition the engine completely?

Did you have to factor in any correction with a thicker headgasket having the heads skimmed?

From what I know adjusting thickness actually alters the cam chain timing unless its compensated for.

surely it wouldve been cheaper to get a replacement engine? Its not like the rest of the car is worth spending money on...

Yep about that, and than I know I will have a good motor that will go for many km.

Yep Paul has given a thicker headgasket.

Way? watt is the fun in that, and if you get a second hand engine, you don't know watt you get,

it can blow after a month to.

And the car is way I bought it for, it is still registered and there will be all fibre glass panels for.

I thought this too, but there is nothing like a properly rebuilt engine.

And this motor is meant to do 400,000kms;

fair enough, i saw the pictures of the car when it was forsale and the shell was hardly anything to write home about. Wasnt aware it was destined for the same treatment as the E34, so i guess that makes a bit more sense now.
