E46 LS track day car project

Recommended Posts

So after changing my mind numerous times on engine options I have gone 6ltr LS (L98) with 6spd tremec.

Roll cage has been started.

Still need some advice on the rear end Ideas I do have a winters quick change I am considering using.

Any advice would be appreciated

For ease of install you could use an e46 m3 back end. Is the LS staying NA?
Cage is looking good. Are you keeping the standard steering column?

Awesome. I'd like to see a local LS swap actually get done properly.

How did you go about the engine mounts?

As for the diffs, if its got the medium case setup, its probably just good enough for the stock power of the LS with road use, I suspect it wouldn't last with track work though.

I know of guys in the states with 500nm+ setups in turbo E36s with 188mm diffs were doing ok, but for your setup I'd do what James suggested and replace the rear end with an M3 subframe for the 210mm large diff.

what was the car originally if it was a 318i 320i etc it will have the small case diff , wont last 5 mins

330i set up would do (med diff but with bigger ,brakes axles and bearings etc)

323i 325i 328i type also use med diff but smaller brakes ,axles and bearings etc

, but if you can find one m3 rear end that would be better still

Sounds like the plan to hunt down a e46 m3 complete rear end

I will add few more pics of cage and mounts all done by PPRE

I will be running a aftermarket pedal box and steering column .

Motor will just be rebuilt with a big cam keeping it n/a and hopefully reliable.

Nice Engine mounts.

But yeah like Martin says, as well as the floor, I'd also look at doing some additional work to integrate the subframe mounting points into the roll cage.

Quite a few E36 / E46 people do this. Plenty of ways to do so, but heres one extensive example
