Considering the rotary was a German engine designed in germany by a german guy for German applications...it's not really thaaaaaat out of place in a bmw.

I love the extra effort, like bodywork in the engine bay.

It looks so good it looks factory.

Comments like these make the hard work worth it! Its great for something to be appreciated by fellow enthusiasts, even if it is a wankel.

Maybe they should have done this from factory!?

Small update, no photos though..
Tuning all finished including cold start etc. Went for cert yesterday and only failed on a few minor things, 205/45/16 on 8" rim is apparently too stretched, upgrade brake pads to EBC red or similar, few nuts and bolts and a heat shield around the place, driveline vibration to be sorted out, which I will solve by aligning the two piece shaft better, or replacing it with a one piece driveshaft. I'm a bit unsure how to deal with the driveshaft alignment, but will put it in the air on the weekend and work something out.

I have two months to sort out issues and it'll be all on for summer cruising!

Sweet, sounds like a pretty manageable list.

Where is the driveshaft out of alignment? As it leaves the gearbox?

stupid that a 205/45 is too stretched but a 205/40 is legal lol

the whole sizing chart they use is ridiculous. cant wait to see this driving round the streets

Its straight from diff to center bearing (not centered in the tunnel) and it then goes on an angle to the gearbox which is in the center of the tunnel, also gearbox needs to be higher to reduce angle in that direction too.. Lifting the gearbox is easy due to the way I have it mounted.

Its not much, but creates a hell of a wobble under full load! I really dont know the best way to attack this but I feel that I can work it out after having come this far.

Just took the time to read the whole thread.

Usually I'd look past a rotary E30, but not this one.

Well worth the read, nicely done.

Long time member, keep an eye on the forum but don't post much. Saw this today and love it. Especially the voltage meter. So awesome. Kudos!

So this happened!
Its been a few weeks since then - a few hundred kms covered and I'm just loving it!
The "improvements list" is already starting to grow in my mind....

Good work man, looking tidy as, all the hard work has payed off. What kind of improvements do you have on your mind or is that going to be revealed in time?

LSD (neeeed!)
Better cooling in the way of bigger fans and maybe ducting.

Paint work and general tidy ups

SE sideskirts

interior (seats, door cards)
More power/boost (steve murch turbo tickle-ups, manifold, external gate, new exhaust)

New solid bushes in rear subframe.

Of course most of this is long term unless I come into vast sums of money!

Any time man, just let me know when you're down and I'll bring it out!

good work, no issue too big to resolve.

Can't beleive nobody's commented on your garage - it's awesome! so much space.

The big shed in the pics is my mates - hoist, welder etc where the heavy work was done - the smaller shed is my old flat, where I did all the fitting up etc, Ive since moved so now just have a normal sized double shed. (on the plus side, it is my own now instead of a rental) Luckily all the hard stuff was done before the move!

A good shed is vital to enjoying a project just that little bit more!
