Michael. 2312 Report post Posted October 28, 2015 Unfortunately this is illegal. If your car gets into another dust up it will void your insurance if the inspector spots the tint. Done well I guess the chances of someone spotting it are minimal. According to the LVVTA page "2.1(14) An overlay must not be applied to a lens fitted to a low volume vehicle if that overlay would reduce the mechanical and optical properties of the lamp below a safe tolerance." Furthermore..... "NOTE: Headlamps are the most important part of a low volume vehicle’s lighting system, as they affect the driver’s vision, the vehicle’s conspicuity, and oncoming motorists’ ability to see without being dazzled. As such, there can be no compromises in relation to headlamps on a low volume vehicle for any reason." Kinda seems like a lot of grey area on such a topic? Much like un-certed hub spacers, cut springs, etc. The last car was done the same. No issues working for Car Folie I saw it all - and know the laws, but thanks for the heads up anyway. In saying that, there is also a protective law for us insurance consumers, that if the modification (like tint) was not the main cause of the accident or any contribution towards that accident, insurance can't not pay you out. Can 100% confirm they paid out, despite indicators being tinted with film. They questioned it, but I was protected. If it was such a big black mark, I don't think I'd have my blue M3 today lol. The rule is pretty ridiculous that a factory tinted with potentially lower light output is fine and an aftermarket tint is not, but insurers will use what they can to avoid paying out!
