E36 328I Track Car

Recommended Posts

To many changes at once to notice anything specific. Will stay OEM size brakes for now, money to be spent in other places

Best/cheapest upgrade would be 330i e46 front and 328i e46 rear calipers and rotors - this keeps the stock brake bias whilst vastly upgrading braking performance. Can probably yank these off any e46's at pickapart or any such wrecker.

We did the m3 floating rotor swap (Fronts only) to my car as an experiment - involved grinding away quite a bit of the caliper carrier to fit the M3 rotors as they're a bit wider - the ones I got are also 2nd hand so pre-worn. New rotors would be more difficult to fit. Brake feel is amazing though, barely have to touch the pedal to get the same amount of braking as the 330I front rotor.

Edit: I am also running Goodridge braided brake lines, massive difference with these alone.

Rear LTW wing showed up. Bolt in seat brackets are ready and LSD center has arrived, dropping off my spare diff on sat to get it rebuilt.

Goal is drop car for cage weekend after Easter.

Have ordered Hawk race pads, TRW rotors and rear pads.

Coolant hose set, sump baffle and tow hook is coming back from the USA with Mum later this month.

Changed mind on brake pads after having a chat to KBM, going for hawk HB136 U and HB227 N. KBM ran them in a 6 hour enduro and didnt need to be changed. Not cheap pads (fronts are RRP 412.35 +gst) but if they last!

LSD is built and ready to be picked up.

Really enjoy seeing Kaynes work, so consistently good!

How much is he selling the Syntrax for these days? Mine is due for a fluid change, not really so keen on this redline stuff

Edit: Feckin autocorrect

The best brakes for the money are e36 m3 with pagid pads. They put up with the long term abuse and stop amazingly. Also when you can grab some stainless lines and run motul 660 RBF dot 4 brake fluid. Then tag some second hand slicks with light weight 17inch wheels and youll get the times down very quickly.

Most of Hampton is about braking confedence and turn in. Power obviously does help, but not as much as people think. All the time is in the corners. Time and time again I see big power cars screetching it up the straights only to loose it all in the corners and the slower better handling cars are back up there bum on every corner. The tracks good like that.
