Meyle/Akebono Brake Rotors and Pads?

Whats the consensus on these? Decent? Not looking for crazy performance or anything Im a sensible driver after all.

I did Power Stop rotors with Akebono Euro pads. IIRC freight cost me $180 from Florida (MyUS.com).

Discs came to about USD380?

Akebono Euro Pads I can't remember what I paid - the modulation is good, the initial bite is not as good as factory pads. They keep your wheels reasonably clean.

I also got new caliper slider pins, boots, and sensors, and a tube of the ATE plastilube which is really good.

If you're after some reasonable disks at today's exchange rate (I scored mine in late 2013, the exchange rate was more favourable), Herbmeister got some good slotted rotors recently form Australia - take a look at his project thread.

PS - next time I think I'll try Hawk Performance pads.

Replaced the pads on my old Volvo S60 T5 with Akebono... preferred them over factory as they produced a lot less brake dust. As per Olaf, less initial bite, but a nice progressive feel (which I actually preferred as OEMs on Volvo were very touchy).

​Maybe try some EBC green or yellow pads locally? I had them (can't remember which colour now) on a Honda Prelude many years ago and they were pretty good.

i dont mind paying the money for the parts, but $225USD for shipping is insane. just looked at ECS and it was over $300usd for shipping.

never had a problem with shipping prices in the past (like $50-100 seems reasonable) but those items were not as big/heavy as rotors.

always had good experience with fcp. have used them numerous times over pelican or ecs.

but actually just looking on trademe found some okay ish priced stuff from NZAD.

I've been buying from FCP since 2006, they're consistently very good.

if you want another freight option, do a search on "myus.com visa promotion" and get 2 years free premium membership, 30 days free storage, discount on freight etc.

if you can buy at reasonable prices locally, better to support locals.

I'm intrigued as to who made the discs.

Hawk pads I have used and found to be pretty good, if a little 'dirty'.

on my 855-T5 I'm running PBR Deluxe pads, ceramic, still low dust, though more initial bite than the Akebonos. Different setup though, braided lines and grooved+slotted rotors. Less modulation than my e46 but then it's a different setup, not sure how much I can attribute to the pads in terms of modulation. I have been able to induce heat soak in the Volvo.
