E39 Window not moving

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

My rear right window does not move when pressing the button.

When i press the button, from both the drivers and the passenger door, i can hear the motor (or something) clicking, but nothing happens. Its the same noise the other windows make when they are either fully up or fully down. That faint little tick.

Any idea on what it might be? Motor, regulator, the runners that the window moves in?

It seems like power is still getting where it needs to, its just not moving. I've tried pressing the button while trying to move the window myself, thats a no go too.

Any ideas?

Likely regulator - where the cable runs through the bracket the glass sits on has probably broken.

Take the door card off and the foam cover and all will be revealed.

Definitely regulator, replaced a couple, not that hard and there are a few you tube videos on it.

Just make sure you order the right year as they change in the E39 pre/ post facelift, if you have your build date you'll be fine.

Few on trade me for sale usually

Francois is giving away a couple - they come with entire doors! See the for sale column.

Haven't had a chance to get the door card off yet, that was going to be this weekends job.

But today when i took it for a drive, i tested it again, and it worked. Up and down no problem. I closed it before it gave me any more issues, like sticking when its open. Would this still be the regulator on its way out? Or just a loose connection somewhere.

I'll still have a look this weekend,

sounds like the behaviour mine exhibited when the regulator was about to expire. it's all fun until it happens in a rainstorm! Oh, you're not in Auckland, so less chance of that!

errr, I'll get me coat. B)
