One of my mates had one of these (exactly like this) and I never got round to driving it (doh).

Talking with the guys @Driscoll Motors yesterday and in their opinion E39 M5 or Merc W211 E55 are *the best* performance sedans to own.

If I hadn't bought *both* my BMWs in the last 9 months .... very tempting to replace E60 with this!

car dealer warned me off high km e55 compressors. He had a warranty claim for $20k for a customer to replace the active rear shocks and a couple of suspension bits in the rear. He won't sell them anymore . I do however know two owners that have had theses from new without issues.

I think the M5 would be a safer bet in this regard.

E39 M5 would be cheaper for sure, its a relatively simple car in comparison to the E55. Air shocks on the W211 are getting cheaper, with a factory reman option available now, but still a lot more than the standard shocks in an E39.

A well looked after E55 is good, especially with a warranty, but nothing on a decent M5.

What are people's thoughts about the E60 M5 - decent few around and as low as $30k...

An Avus e39 M5 is pretty close to perfection on that platform. Lusty.

I know someone who had one. Lucky to get 200km out of a tank if that concerns you. Melted brakes and tyres like butter.

Edit to be clear ^ E60 M5.

I love E39 M5 and think they are a good buy, but I'm just an internet fanboy...
