E30 sport seats retrim

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there is enough material on an e30 comfort seat to retrim a sport seat?

looking replacing my comfort seats, but the upholstery is so good, I thought I might be able to get a set of clapped out sports seat and do a material swap. What do you reckon?

doubt it, the comfort seat is essentailly one piece of material for the top and one for the bottom when it is taken off whereas the sport seats have 6 separeate panels, right side bolster, back, left side bolster and the same on the bottom so the material has to go round each piece seperately so more is needed than standard seats. I am attempting to do this very same job at the moment. I have stripped the material off a back seat for the centre bits and am using some leatherette for the bolsters pulled tight and secured with eyelets on the material and cable ties to the frame. Its costing me very little at the mo as it'll probably looks like a dogs dinner when done but they're so rough now (although mechanically sound) that theres no harm in trying, will let you know how I get on if ya like

That would be great, send a pic of the finished job if you can. Maybe I could canabalise a couple of wreck cars to make one decent pair of sport seats.

Got your work cut out. Should be worth it in the end though. My problem is I haven't even got a base yet. Comfort seats are still in car.

just keep you eyes out for scappers pal, these were from a wrecking convertible, just kept looking until some came up - someone on bimmersport gave me a heads up, if you get off a specialist bmw/e30 guy they know they are quite rare and charge the earth, got these for $170 for the pair - worth a punt at that
