BMW F1 Car BT52 1,280 hp Engine Assembly

Recommended Posts

1500bhp for qualifying engines. 1bhp/cc.  Totally awesome.

But I am surprised that they didn't use any kind of clean room.  I used a rudimentary one in 93 to build a race chevy V8. (still blew up - over-revved by the driver  :-( )

What an engine / car to be working on, I would be almost too scared to touch it in case I screwed up!!

I don't believe they ever actually knew what the power output was for the "qualifying" spec engines as they went off the dial on the dyno, so it is usually referred to as "over 1,400" or something as that's where the gauge ended.

Not sure they need a clean room if they are sticking to the original processes of leaving the blocks outside and pissing on them..?

Yea, surprised they applied the oil to the bore by hand.

I would have thought they would use gloves to avoid contamination.

And not a torque wrench in sight lol!

It's like when you wash your car - you do it with a bare hand, so you can feel any bit of grit or tar spots etc. any remove them, before doing an damage.

Well... that's what I think about, when I give our car it's annual wash, with a sponge
