Boot stuck

Right. This one's a bit of doozy... The boot on my 525e is stuck shut. I'm 90% certain that something has gotten a bit intimate with either the hinges or more likely the catch mechanism.

Now the beauty of the E28 is that it has a nice ski pass for me to crawl through... Except it doesn't 

 

I've tried sitting on it and massaging the open button, high-fiving the badge area, poking long things through the strut access holes, but to no avail.

I've got the following, fairly primitive ideas...

• Smash a light
• Drill out the lock
• Drill a hole behind the number plate
• Cut a hole in the top of the boot
• Cut a hole behind the rear seat
• Never open the boot again
• Or actually use my AA membership for something and see what creative ideas they come up with...

 

Any ideas? If not feel free to grab some popcorn

if you have a spare tail  light , that might be the cheapest way to get in

other wise the lock , but then you will need to recode a new one

 

but maybe try AA first , but because its the boot ,maybe they wont help unless you happen to have locked the keys in there

Without trying to be constructive at all here... Could you videotape everything you try? That'd be worthy of popcorn and might end up edumacational for someone else having the same problem someday.

I kinda have a spare tail light (arguably worse condition or non-matching).

 

I guess I could say I've locked the keys in there, but it's a bit obvious when the boot is unlocked and it still doesn't open...

Does it have the seatback stamped for the ski access hole? Had a similar problem with my E30, knocked out the hole in the seatback and used loads of extensions to unbolt the catch.

But I've never seen an E28 with the seats out so dunno if it'll work for ya.

I don't think it's the lock per say that's the problem. It's that I believe there is something caught in the mechanism

drill a fekking great hole in the boot lid for access, and when you're done, cover it up with a huge 1990's shopping trolley handle spoiler.  job's a good un.  oh wait, it's not an e30.

more seriously though, the thread that explains drilling two large holes with a holesaw in the rear seat firewall and using long extensions, seems the best way to go.

Hahaha, was too busy figuring it out and not swearing, so I forgot sorry. It was pretty straight forward.

1. Remove seats
2. Remove sound deadening
3. Draw circle
4. Cut circle out
5. Climb into newly cut hole without eviscerating yourself
6. Open boot

Those that have met me in person could confirm that I am in fact the waif and not using child labour lol
