Wellington servicing for E60 M5 - recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hi all - having just acquired @treone's awesome E60 M5 I'm wondering about the best place to get a bonkers vehicle like this serviced. I've been a loyal customer of Driscoll Motors on Walter Street for longer than I care to remember. They're a good bunch and service all makes and models including plenty of euros (inc this M5 BTW - and some AMGs) - but a specialist they are not. By default I'll keep going there and another bonus is that they are familiar with Autosure/Vero and have made sure my policies are being used when they can/should. They have done a solid job with my E53 X5 and E60 545i - only thing that they couldn't sort was troubleshooting/replacing the iDrive on the E60 and they don't have the BMW detail module for the AutoLogic code scanner (provides some more detailed explanation of the codes).

So - interested in your thoughts and recommendations - what (if anything) would I gain by switching and using somebody like Page European etc?

Cheers, Pete

Pete, I know Page European are a Vero Autosure agent and recommend Vero as the best MBI around, so you should have no issues there.  They do I wide variety of Euros these days, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Audi.  Hell, there was an Alfa on the rack yesterday.  They certainly have the modules in their scanner.  You'd want to go in and have a chat with your M5 glowering in the background, see what they say.

Others to consider in Wellington - unsure of their Vero Autosure status:

  • You might want to talk with Jon at Auto38 about your M5 as well, he's up in Newtown.  I've used Jon before and would use him in future.
  • Another other option is Powerhaus (I think they do a lot of Porsche, as well as BMW, Mercedes, Audi) - I've only purchased parts there.  Friends with Porsche, BMW, Audi use them and rate them.
  • Of course there's Winger BMW.

Mine's not an exhaustive list.  There are a couple of workshops in the Hutt Valley recommended by other members here.

What would you gain?  Often carrying the parts you need in stock.  Specific knowledge & experience on BMW.  Genuine BMW coolant!

Well done on the purchase Pete, anything I cant or don't want to do, I take to Peter at Motordrome in Cuba Street, he is a qualified BMW Technician & used to work at Shellys when I was there

Hutt City European in the Hutt and Page European in town are both good.  I take my M3 and the Audi Q7 to either of them.

Not Wellington but Mike Page European in Paraparaumu. I've had great experience in dealing with both Mike and Jeff and found that they really do know their stuff. They have the knowledge and comparable/up-to-date diagnostic equipment to service most European makes. And them having BMW DNA is a bonus too lol.

As you know they also have a bit of history also with your M5. I was pretty impressed on how and what they did to diagnose and sort it's issues.

They also have a good relationship with Autosure/Vero - in fact when I made an enquiry with Autosure and told them that Mike Page service the M5 they said there wouldn't be a problem if there were any claims to be made.

And besides, think of fun drive you will have there and back :D.

My experience with servicing the M5 was finding a garage that knows their stuff, know  BMW quirks and know the requirements of looking after 'M' cars and you can't go wrong.

Otherwise all other local suggestions seem fine...
