M73 Starter Motor. The one in the 750 makes a noise when trying to start

haha it may need a very large clout.
Thanks, just seen that now. I may just have to buy this and hopefully it works. @jeffbebe has a spare he doesn't need :-)

hittling with a hammer will not fix noises. 

The knock helps to free the brushes to enable them to make contact with the com. 

IF you have to hit it chances are you need to repair it.

haha I cant even get to it to hammer it.

It makes a weird winding noise when it initially starts, then after a second or two, it stops.

So more likely bushes or bearings. Pull it out or run.It till it melts

The V12 starter motors do tend to wind up when starting. Here's the best vid I could find of the sound they make. It's pretty distinctive and way different to my old 740i.
