Recommended Posts

Hey guys i have a 318i m40 e30 and im wanting to manual convert it. I've looked on eBay and can't seem to find one that'll fit an e30. Would you guys be able to recommend some places that sell them?

Seriously... and I don't mean to offend..... do you really think you have the skills to do this ?... If the car was mint, I'd be doing a M42 M44 motor & manual conversion not a M40

Clearly you've assumed one too many things here. Firstly, i have an auto E30 that already has an m40 in it with fairly low kms so why would i swap it out for a m42? Secondly, i did not state that i'm doing it myself. My post clearly states i'm looking for advice on where to find a manual conversion kit not how to convert an e30. Cheers for you're input though.

James the work side of the conversion in most cases is the easy part. Finding the correct parts is the hard part in NZ such a small market that is why it is easier to go over seas.

Yeah, the price is not bad but the shipping kills it.  I wonder if there other models which might be compatible or modifiable?

Glenn knows his sh*t. An m40 is kinda crap so if you're doing the work anyway go to a quad value dohc engine (m42/m44). Obviously this is all just internet waffle so you don't have to do anything anyone says :-)

M42

I've got an e30 Getrag gearbox here going cheap. Might be a bit far south for you, but hit me up via pm if you're interested.

new LUK DMF and Clutch kit for my 525i (M54) was just over a grand (almost NZ$1200??), delivered from ebay and GST paid here. There's a few other parts worth doing while you're in there, but certainly nowhere near $3K of labour is involved!!!

Was your car converted to manual? There's a fair few dodgy converted ones around.
