0-60 the price i paid was $15.64 per shell euro tho so not sure if thats cheaper or not.

Jon i had checked on multiple websites and called Bmw nz, quoting this part number and they all state that the blue/red is just a colour to differentiate the bottom to top shell. Nothing to do with tolerances unless stated by the seller as you can get different sizes but unless stated it's generally 45mm which is factory spec.

I haven't measured my clearances as it honestly looked like the conrods and crankshaft were in perfect nick.

Again im not expert but just sharing what i have learnt so far.

Hey Team

small update, bearings are in the country and unfortunately got stung with duty/tax was $5 over the $400 threshold due to bank exchange rate fees FML.

But  it is what it is and i wont be making that mistake again. On a positive note manage to get the old clutch plate relined, pressure plate, release bearing reconditioned and additional clamping force added. Well worth the cost compared to buying a factory new one.

Hey Brent

i took the clutch to Geartech here in Palmy. They outsourced the job to MP autoparts in the wellington area.

they did a very nice job on the rebuild.

Forget what I said about the bearing colours - that is on other engines.nothing like being consistent!

No worries Jon,

So finally got the conrod bearings. Once i get the block back from the engineer I will be installing these and hopefully get the beautiful dry sump on too :)

what did they sting you on GST tax

Hey Richard

I managed to keep the purchase about 8 euro under the $400 nzd threshold but Schmiedann added the 5.50 euro exchange rate onto the invoice which bumped up the price $4 nzd over each box ( split the shipping of 2 boxes) so got stung $125 each box!

Rung Customs and try to discuss my point that i didn't think a bank fee should be part of the purchase price of the goods but they said it was so yeah, couldn't really say no as i do need the bearings.

$65ish for GST $49ish for entry and $15 admin fee.

Next time use the customs calculator, as they also have their own exchange rate.

Hey Nathan

yeah i did use the calculator and got the correct figure, also knew there was going to be a exchange rate fee from the banks but didn't think Schmiedann were going to add it to the invoice. So was going well for being under $400 till i got the bill from DHL saying it was over.

But no biggy just happy I've got the bearings now.

Hi Everyone

sorry for the lack of post have been busy with my other project to get it up and running to be my new daily driver so i could get this car dismantled.

So nothing has happened yet but the future plans for now are to completely strip the car of the running gear. Check the rear subframe and weld the reinforcement plates and install some of the M3 running gear.

The v12 motor is still at the Engineers, fingers crossed he will start work on it in the new year.

So cant wait till get this one started again.

Hey Team

Long time no post,

As i have a couple projects going at one time i have share my time between them all.

Some of you may have seen my other e34 project build thread which is taking most of my time up now a days only due to me waiting on the engineer to start on my V12 motor, but i have given him a month to start something as it's almost been a year and half since i drop the motor off. If nothing happens in a months time i will be pulling pin on him. I have found a guy over in Aussie. Guys name Rama he owns and runs RHD engineering and makes ITB's galore. So either way excited that this project is heading somewhere again.

So in the mean time other things semi related to this build have happen.

You all must know _ethrty-andy_ well i saw he was selling one of his do a uppers on trade me for $1 reserve.

This puppy i managed to win.

P1010455.JPG.c36241fddb42dee6793eef2824e3f38e.JPG

had a few bits needed to be done to make road worthy, ( still not)

So me and the boys took all the running gear from the gearbox back to whole rear end out of the sedan and swapped it all into this coupe.

P1010452.JPG.353f3614e1c0ac1558d49eda4afd54eb.JPG

Now its a manual 328i, there are a few little bits to finish off then ill sell it to fund this

e46v8.2.jpg.cd433b98dc8de9e1ba70d73f7dba5ece.jpg

Its a e46 touring with a v8 swap.

So i hope you guys dont mind this build thread will home two projects now.

 re-titled Project Twin E46's :)

In short plans are to swap the 4lt v8 in as it has a 3lt one, convert to manual and supercharge it.

I still wanted the sedan to be rollable so managed to bolt the m3 rear end in minus the diff.

P1010459.JPG.0c139de1681b362115e91ec3b5b9cdc1.JPG

doesn't that look nice.

checked the rear subframe and no cracks but still intend to weld the reinforcement plates in at some point.

Looking forward to bring more updates.

Thanks Richard

Richard, thats amazing. That intake on the wagon, major heat soak. i highly recommend you build something to extend it a bit further towards the fender and use gold heat reflective tape on the pipe and make a shield to close off the filter from the engine heat.

Looking forward to the V12 being done....

Hey 0-60

once i have the superchager in place ill have a better idea on how to attack the intake side, but do agree its current state a box around the pod filter would help.

Gave the engineer a call today and he says he may have the heads ported and ready for viewing by the end of the week :) fingers cross he follows through with it.

Nicely done, bugger didn't realise it was you when you came to get it! could have yarned about V12 stuff ha. i have a lot of experience with the M70, Lance and I built the red V12 E34 Touring that is flating about (who knows where it ended up now).

Having said that i recal i was in no state for serious banter anyway ha.

did you work out what the noise was in it ?

Hey Andy

haha yeah it was late that night of pick up, thanks for accommodating me.

Would have love to yarned about the v12, plenty time for that though.

It looked to be the wheel bearing that was making the noise, once i swapped the whole rear end over, no sound.

Hey Everyone

We have finally got some action going! called up the engineers and as promised he had started some work on the heads.

Popped in to have a look and he didn't disappoint, so excited to finally get this build back on track.

One of the heads in the CNC machine getting the intake and exhaust ports done, not sure on specs but looks to be 2-3mm of porting done.

So thats it for now,  Engineer was originally going to weld and make the intake adapter plate by hand but has now decided to machine it out of a solid billet piece.

Regrind factory cams and find some stronger valve springs to suit.

can't wait to see more of this build taking shape.

Thanks Richard

Wow, awesome!

So did that additional exhaust port get CNC'd to give you two exhaust ports for maximum flow?

I'm just slightly confused about that, does that mean 12 exhaust ports per side? Haha

Edited by Michael.

Hey Michael man that is a bloody brilliant idea! the v12's m70/73 are renown for having sh*t exhaust flow, so two would fix that :)

but no thats the spark plug port.

Ohhhh I see! Gosh, how embarrassing.

I just looked up some other photos of M70 heads, didn't realize the circular port is indeed the angled spark plug port with the thread further down inside. I thought it was the original exhaust port and the square one was a new one made.

Now I can see it's just nicely CNC'd for improved flow :)
