@Olaf you'd want to keep it LHD because RHD headers a PITA and it's a special edition M5...

F*#k that for a game of skittles.  I'd be buying it to drive, here in NZ.  I have zero interest in matyring myself to trainspotting notions of originality!  Tried carparks, or open-roading in NZ in a left-hooker?

?

I drove a few left-hookers in the UK. US muscle (Camaro, Mustang, C10 pickup) and some Italian - an Alfa Romeo oddball, and a Integrale. It certainly takes some getting used to - overtaking while in the C10 really required a passenger! - but it's not so bad. And puts the gear lever to the right of the driver.

And yes.. Tuning parts like headers are much, much more readily available for LHD cars.

LHD in an LHD market - no worries.  I lived in a LHD market for three years, drove stick, quite happy doing it.  It's the impracticality of driving LHD in NZ that makes any decision to do so here 'questionable'.   You'll recall driving in Europe while driving on the right of the car; it's doable.  That's the difference, though.  Visiting, vs Residing.

I'd just buy the factory RHD headers for the M5 and be done with it.

TBH, it never really bothered me. Took a week or so to get used to and after that... It was just different.

RHD headers for a M5 may be OK, but several of the cars I've had would have been a different matter. Various V8 Mercs, and a Porsche 928... RHD headers don't exist unless you have them custom made.

That said, following a tractor down a narrow-ish country road while in the C10 was 'challenging'. There's no way (from the LHD driving seat) to tell when it's safe to overtake, and moving far enough out to see past meant anything coming the other way would have hit me before I could see them coming. Certainly not ideal.

Been trying to get hold of the guy since Saturday...

Tempted to pull the trigger!

But no response so far...

Getting would precipitate a fire sale of my others though..

Someone please restore this.

Surely the value of this car fully restored would be very very high.

Yeah, would be a complete waste to sell it for parts. Given the rarity of it im sure fully restored would fetch a high price, especially if overseas buyers are interested.

Everything else would be easy and fairly cheap to sort but don't think id trust the engine given its been sitting around for a long time and the cost to repair them. You'd definitely want a good inspection and test of it.

What would be the value of this car if it were fully restored?

itd be hard to say. There was a RHD up for $17k recently. Looked very tidy, but had a shady history and wasnt a special edition with sweet recaros.
