Note I have no idea what our emissions testing involves, so this is probably a stupid idea :)

have been told by some guys that it may actually pass a local test ?? but who knows , lean out the ecu ??

I’d love to see good info on this topic. Everything on The nzta site about imports suggests the cars need to meet the emissions standards on export from foreign country.
