That license plate...

Can't believe someone would pay the money for that...

I would love one of these - surely they will be collector's items down the track... rarity = potentially hard to find parts, though so not everyone's cup of tea.  Can't be too many of these in NZ, I would think?

Clive from this parish also has a 525iX Touring, NZ new, in red, though his is very tasteful.  @525ix tourer

Moiist.  Riiiiiiight.  Shoulda got 'wiidon"

Very cool moh-uh!  (that's motor, as in motor car, for those of you who don't speak london-ese.  as in 'hullo John gottanew moh-uh?')

EDIT:  Blimey @525ix tourer had you already sold this?  that photo looks very close to your workplace!

Either engine depends on build date , can fit m52 m54 s54 s50 engines to these

The engine in the MOIIST car is a TU - it has VANOS: 141kW(189hp)/5900rpm, 250NM(184lb.ft)/4200rpm

when Clive had it, it was stock as a stock thing, he was working to ensure it was top notch.  Looking on car jam the plate was original until June this year.

Paul, are you thinking on an M5 donk, or an M54 or similar?

M5x or S5x would be easiest as the gearbox and sump are as bolt up as you're going to get. S38 or v8 would be a mission as the gearbox bell housing pattern and sump are wrong.

Anything is possible with enough time and money though

EDIT: that probably includes diesels. An m57 one of these would be pretty cool

nothing more than idle speculation but as Brent says i think most of us would regard a 525ix as a constipated turd in stock form. However a rare 525ix i would be reluctant to tamper with. The force is strong with that 535d tho....

We nearly bought a pale metallic blue 525iX Touring (automatic) a while ago, but the owner decided to keep it. I'd hoped to have a look at the drivetrain but never got the chance.

Does the driven front axle run in front of the sump? Or is the sump specific to the iX? Could be a limitation wrt an engine swap.

from what I have seen, the sumps are specific to the 525iX, so that means only M5x engines could go in, unless you want to go fully custom.

lots of unique parts on these .

front chassis legs have notches to allow the axle movement up and down ,

floor on the front left beside the passenger knees has a bulged to allow space for the transfer case

different  front and rear hubs , brakes , front arms , steering rack (not a box) . front struts etc

sump has the front diff bolted to it, one axle goes though it.,

pretty much same design for the front setup that they used for the X5 models

So in theory Brent, could you put engine options from the E53 into the 525ix?

Are you thinking of a 4.x V8-powered E34 4WD wagon? Niiice.... :)

hmm maybe , any m50 m52 s54 s50 engine will bolt straight in .

anything else would probably need lots of mods etc

I wonder if you could use a x5 4.4L engine and trans , but why bother . ?

the front axles and front shaft would probably break

my mate has a spare front subframe , rack arms and struts maybe sump and front diff) etc

if someone wants to have a play :)

ooooooooooh, please tell me this isnt the same stock and very tidy one i saw doing the daily run each day? Looks dumb on those wheels, the stock ones suited it better. Always saw him driving around, and swooned over the iX.

I think it's the very same, Kelvin. Worked near you.  Haven't checked my images yet to confirm the plates...
