212,756 km

A while back I picked up @qube's Mpars.

Today I finally got around to getting them fitted and balanced.

Why haven’t you sold this to me yet?

Looking great. MPars always look great on e39’s

looks superb, Adrian.  My photography took on a particularly nocturnal phase while our bairns were young, that was the time I could get out without impacting domestic situation.  Ready to shoot with you whenever you like.

Yeah, could do with an update but I’m holding off as long as I can.

Ha, as you know the glass is more important (along with the nut behind the lens); D700 is still a great bit of kit with lovely colours.  Only sold mine a few months ago, trying to shift my 3rd D3 which is taking some time.  D810 on the horizon, for me, I'm no early adopter.  We'll get to shooting when you find opportunity.  I'll IM.

And a couple more....I’m pretty stoked with  how the 18’s look and feel.

Quick clean yesterday, and for once it didn't rain overnight so it's still clean today!

Unreal work man! Ran by your driveway last night, looks like new ?

New tyres too? Didn't you get bridgestones just recently?

Thanks man.

Yeah I had to get a couple of new ones on the front....been sitting on these rims for a while waiting for some spare money to come round. Went for the cheaper option of hankooks @ $215 a corner. My tyre guy wasn’t very impressed that I was swapping out the 10,000km old RE003’s and S001’s for these.  I’m just going to hoard them for now.

Warrent time today. Took it to VTNZ as I was confident there weren't any issues. Turns out the orange film on the rear indicators had cracked off and they failed it because they were white. A quick trip to Repco and it's all sorted. ?

This looks goddamn gorgeous!

I've always regretted selling this car, should've just kept it ?

Thanks Kasey, it's been a great project...nice step up from the E30 too.

Have had a balance issue with the Mpars vibrating (similar to thrust arm vibration) @80km/h so have gone back to the style 66's. Took them back to the shop which re-balanced them however said there was nothing more they could do. Style 66's back on and no vibration @80km. Will save the balancing issue for a rainy day, unless someone wants to buy them off me...yours for $2000 located in Welly.

I'm still chasing an intermittent front end clonk, it comes up through the steering column when suspension is loaded up or with a sudden change of direction, but isn't consistent with the steering...seems more a load issue.  You can also kinda feel it through the floor panel too and it's significantly more noticeable once the car is hot and has a full tank of gas.

centre drag link + tie-rods + pitman arm bushings were replaced at around 170,000km according to maintenance records.

I've replaced the strut mount and have sway bar links on the way. Sway bar links are cheaper than drag link so figured I would try this first.

I have re-torqued everything to spec and have got in with a pry bar to try find some play but can't find any weak point ?

If the sway bar links don't fix it, it might be time to take it to a specialist. What do you guys think?

Checked the steering box and front subframe bolts? My old 540i had a random clonk and it turned out to be a loose steering box mounting bolt.

Thanks Martin, I'll have a look. I would love it to be something simple

The sway bar links were my knocking sound but I think yours may be different.  I could hear mine at low speed on smooth tarmac with neutral suspension.
