Looking at M3's. Is a higher km car an issue?

Kms are not an issue if the car has been serviced PROPERLY, not just had some cheap sh*t oil thrown in it when the dashboard says it needs some. Especailly on M cars - thorough servicing is needed for the longevity of the parts - especially the first running-in service (they still have those) done properly and at the correct time!

You'll probably need to take care of some expensive services soon if they haven't been done. Rod bearings and DCT service should be done around 100-150k.

What is the story with rod bearings in the e90 m3? Does the V10 m5 have the same issue? I belive the v8 is based on the v10.

yep.

just google it, you'll find plenty, and it's consistent.  oil analysis - regularly - appears to be a wise precaution.  Here's a pic:
