Project twin e34's + X5 4.6is manual swap

Recommended Posts

Hey Team

So changed my mind about the wheels on the touring and decided to try the style 95's on to see what they looked like.

Couldn't really get a good gauge as the fronts wouldn't fit due to tyre size and rears fitted but are just touching the shock housing.

So in the process of sorting some smaller profile tyres and putting the style 135's on to the sedan which i think are better suited for.

Also a nice surprise this morning.

Yes yes Charlie ( EUROLESS ) I should really finish one car before the next haha but couldn't help myself.

Have purchased this beauty which i will eventually get to once im ready on the touring.

Just going to let it sit on the back burner, but very excited! :)

Hey Team

Got the tyres sorted for the style 95 and look much better now on the touring. I'd personally like it to sit another 30- 40mm lower but ill leave that till i get adjustables for it.

Hey Team

So finally got the goodies from FCP EURO delivered .

two big boxes of goodies, I didn't bother taking the stuff out as you'll get to see it all been used once i start the swap.

But purchased a fair bit of things.

All gaskets and bolts needed for the M60b44 swap.

2 sets of valve cover gaskets.

2 sets of the FCP 16 piece control arm kit. Will be doing a full over haul of both cars suspension.

Almost there and ready for the fun part of fitting all these parts.

any reason for meyle over lemforder?

Pricing was pretty much same between the two brands when I did my cars and I went for lemforder most of the time

Hey Kyu

No real reason really, just what they provided in their premade control arm kits.

but heard both are good options/brands.

Oh also the life time warranty is a bonus for all parts.

Hey Team

small update so had  the touring our on the drive way as normal had a little rain through out the night.

Found a little puddle on the front seat and knew the leak had returned. Saw 2 small droplets on the sun visor so knew it was in that proximity   Wasn't till later when i looked into it further that the front and rear driver side footwells also had gotten wet. Spent the Sunday pulling the liner down (also intend to redo at a later date as sagging) The drain tube was still attached and draining fine, so sat in the car with a hose going on top of the roof. Bloody culprit was a rubber grommet that the sunroof cable comes through.

Just loose enough to allow a small drop every 10-20secs to come through. Silicone sealed it and will retry once it has cured.

Hi Team

sorry for the lack of update, have a had a few 1st bday parties to attend past few weekends and have managed to tee up an affordable  work shed to move into, went half with a good friend. So busy moving all the toys into the workshop.

Also managed to pick up a spare parts car which came with a spare motor and box too.

Some of you may have seen the Hamann PG2 for sale with the hole in one barrel, yes i couldn't help myself. So though to myself how am i going to fix this on the cheap. Brought some 3 piece Jdm wheels so have also started stripping them to hopefully get the Hamann centers bolted in and have a lower offset.

Also got a finished lsd diff refurbed from the man himself Kayne Barrie. Can't wait to stick this sucker in the car.

So thats where everything is at the moment, will start attacking the motor in the next few weekends.

Hey Ian

Same as you. 3.15 could have left it with the 3.45 but still want it to be reasonable on petrol at a 100kph.

Hey Team long time no post

sorry for lack of updates as life gets away on me, but still have been doing things just not worth posting up.

Hopefully this will be enough to tick you guys over, again nothing major.

Thanks Francois yeah i also can't wait to fit that charger to the awesome touring.

P1010241.JPG.d18e63f3a16e919925a9218b389112d5.JPG

so managed to put the hoist together wasn't too hard to be honest.

Took the covers off and have repainted them in a hammer finish greyish colour.

was intending to use the heads for the m60b44 swap but  realize the motor is a m60b30 so won't be using that motor now.

P1010245.JPG.15b22f1f08e018c4dda6dacf40b793cf.JPG

used the brake duct scoops from the parts car and did some cut and fitting to get them on the sedans front bumper

Thanks

How did the painted rocker covers come up?

They are tricky because the surface is not smooth - I've been trying to think what finish to go with mine.

Hey Nathan

The rocker cover came up well, but i wasn't to fussed on the imperfections to be honest,  i just scrapped the old paint and water blasted the rest off and gave it a good old lick of rattle can paint. so happy with the finish but it does have heaps of gouges in it.

Just had the paint lying around so figured why not. will put pictures up soon

Hey Team

So managed to get a lot done today and hopefully tomorrow too.

With the help of Master Gee and another mate E.B they pretty much turned up here in a ute with a portable work shop, had his compressor, big tool box and gearbox stand. We managed to pull the motor and box out in 40 mins.

I did some minor stuff during the week also just to help spend things along.

P1010273.JPG.d5cb1e494e262c87ecffb683d83fa07d.JPG

P1010277.JPG.d2a9d6282c0aaaf4f5459239382a285c.JPG

P1010275.JPG.f930bd1e1b7c705fe25b6cc27030421a.JPG

this bloody thing was heavy!

P1010278.JPG.c483ffb3317763e2a7ec998691154d37.JPG

P1010280.JPG.4e4755661f98b19c8df1c3a67712501a.JPG

I had removed the radiator and coolant expansion tank before hand.

P1010282.JPG.0f6634f560051a72f11d9875db1d8bdc.JPG

before

P1010283.JPG.1c1c8e6f54ed753d5686136f0ed88307.JPG

after a good degrease and water blast.

P1010290.JPG.51c11b9e099ad3e51e8475737bbdf2f1.JPG

so after discussing with gee the best option was to take the whole front off, that way we could just hoist the whole motor and box into the car. As we are using the pmc adapter plate, we didn't fancy trying to line the box to the motor while under the car.

M62b44 block

P1010293.JPG.16ac88507e69c2458483daf83680d936.JPG

M60b40 heads and everything else needed from this motor will be swapped over to the b44 block

P1010299.JPG.1c6e7d3e4e8bab085c0f1f232a94d5b5.JPG

Also managed to get the Hamann wheels apart and paint stripped the 3 piece barrels. The Hamann centres may need a little machining to fit or possible heat the barrels up and see if they expand enough to fit the centres.

P1010267.JPG.0a491f71fb242dc8a369de7ad14da017.JPG

And hey Nathan here are the finished rocker covers, again a few imperfections but i wasn't too fazed.

Hopefully will get more done to the motor tomorrow.

Thanks Richard

yeah front is easy to pull off, i modified how it connected on my E34 Touring so that it was about 6 bolts to take the whole front end off (after removing bonnet) and fold it round (wiring bonnet release etc still intact). impossible to get a V12 in there with the front still on.

Hammanns are such a good looking wheel in thier own right have never owned a set tho!

As for that AMG supercharger. Not sure if im excited or disspointed its going on your car ha, the dissapointment is only the badge on top tho!

Hey Andy

Thanks again for picking up that stuff the other week for Blair. yes i agree the Hamanns are a great wheel, even better with more dish and offset. As for the supercharger i hear what your saying, i could always grind the AMG off but i quite like it :) but at least its german.

Yeah didn't relize how easy it was going to be until i did it. but was more worried about breaking any clips or plastic bits which luckily i didn't.

Thanks Nathan it was a hammer finish charcoal black supposedly, that i had lying around.
