20180524_075054.thumb.jpg.7f3ac4a7a63337f2c29fc2c49933d6d9.jpg The black box next to my mirror seems to serve no purpose. My guess is that its some JDM toll reader. I can't find anything in real OEM but before I remove it I would like to make sure.

I remember being told that was the sensor related to the auto dimming mirror. Not sure how true this is. Some sort of ambient light sensor that determines when to activate the auto-dim function.

I reckon you can remove it without any issue with your normal functions.

I dont think it relates to the mirror dim as that has sensors in the mirror mount.

Mirror dimming sensors are in the front and back of the mirror unit itself, the sensor for the auto-wipers is in the blacked out part of the windscreen behind the mirror, as would be the camera for active cruise etc. So it looks very much like it is an after-market add-on unit, like you say probably a japanese Toll reader system.

Take it off and see if anything stops working...:ph34r:

If there is a random black box under the dash or in the glovebox with a credi card size slot it will have an electronic toll system and it will be for that, pull it all out.
