Not my preferred choice of engine, but it should make a great project.

What rear end are you planning on running?

Planning to import an e39 M5 diff from home country S.A...but that 3.15 ratio...🤔. I would like a higher ratio end as the T56 gearbox ratios are quite low. 1st 2.66, 2nd 1.78....I heard they do like 80-90km/h in 1st. If I can remember...e39 m5 box is like +-1st4.07; 2nd 2.76...around there...

I have an open 4.1 from my auto running at the moment. A crowd in Wellington can do the lsd internals for around 2k.

I knew that I would upset a few Bmw/Euro Purists by doing a conversion like this.  We all have our reasons, and each one of us our opinions.

Alls well.

Schweet brru. 😉

Looks like fun! An E39 is not such a special car that this should offend many people - E30s get 1UZs and all sorts of other engines, and Mercedes get BMW engines (and vice versa).

The old SBC was put in pretty much everything - I had one in an E28.

Look forward to seeing how you get on.

We are importing 2 V8 engines and trans. The other for a Holden V6 VE ute. A few parts weren't clean enough for MPI inspection at customs. $250 for water blasting and +-50 extra for re-inspection.

General Motors placement of reverse...🤣🤣

Got me thinking about our 333i's in South Africa. That dogleg box was Hardfreakincore. Our own M3.

Ohh so it's an L98.

Basically just an alternative spec LS2.

Both have good output and potential.

I was reading that the other day :)

The L98 has far more potential than the LS2, the rectangle port heads flow very well and if you replace the cam before you install then 400 plus HP is easy, potential is there for close to 500.

LS conversions though thrashed to hell overseas are not that common here, I was thinking along the same lines but wasn't ready to pull the trigger. i'm really looking forward to following this build thread!!

Yea brru. Thats why the choice was a 98. I plan to run her stock for about a year. After getting the diff ratio sorted amd maybe hopefully brakes upgraded....then a cam, lifters, rods(pre historic...I know) ls3 throttle bod, induction, headers and exhaust and these things run hard +-500hp. Maybe port and polish heads ....yea definitely.
