I wanted Rossi to win. :)  (Especially after he turned in the fastest motorcycle lap ever at Mugello.)

Still - he has accumulated more than 5000 MotoGP points now... Incredible achievement. He may not win, but he is so consistently very good.

Lorenzo, made the better start, set a decent pace and maintained it while others crashed trying to either hang with him or catch up. It was a seriously good race to watch.

Some guys were hitting 350 plus kmh to make up time between corners - Lorenzo was a good 10k slower , rode smoother and finished with a front tyre in good nick , something he has struggled with on the Ducati and others have before him and around him.

Even if the others had been able to hang with him or challenge - for change he had some rubber and speed in the bank to play if he needed.

That was how I saw it. Lorenzo raced very well indeed - no doubt about it. He normally runs into tyre trouble after a fast start, fading towards the end, but this time didn't. I suspect Rossi didn't push as hard as he could early on because that is what he expected to happen.

It'll be interesting to see where Lorenzo is next season. Or how he finishes next race.

Yep agree it started out looking like the classic go out hard and get nailed half way through strategy from Lorenzo.

Rossi and the other guys on hard front tyres didn't push it because the hard didn't provide enough stick , those that did push harder crashed - Marquez et al. Rossi and Dovi were losing the front several times each lap when they tried to push.

Lorenzo made a good tyre choice and adapted his riding to make it last,  the outcome was the tyre was better than he expected at the end of the race so he too could have pushed harder the difference being, he would have stayed on the bike because of the superior grip.

Next race will be very interesting as will any announcement from Lorenzo or Ducati about 2019 which was the key question in the original post "Will Ducati again ditch soeone who has mastered their bike like they did with Stoner:  who covered up for an apalling bike with sensationally adaptable riding or will they deny the bike is a challenge ? They have the opportunity to learn from dismissing Stoners commentary and accepting adapting to the bike takes time and maybe they need to put more effort into addressing  the bike?

I predict Paella on the top steps of the podium , senor spectacular and senor consistency  and maybe some spagetti on the remaining step for 2019,  looking forward to an interesting rest of this season while Ducati soak up the biggest own goal in MotoGP history as they repeat the appalling mismanagement recipe they ran with Stoner.
