E32 Misfire 735il/cylinder down

Recommended Posts

Hasn't had an issue engine wise, after a decent drive over a hill , developed a misfire/cylinder down feels like mostly.

Bit ov excess smoke , clear smell is very gassy, any common problems, about to check S.plugs now

First basic checks do id are make sure no vacuum leaks from split intake boots then check plugs, distrubutor cap and rotor.

Ok so have confirmed spark to all plugs, leads and distrubutor etc obviously fine,

2nd spark plug in, no 1 is getting absolutely saturated, have cleaned and dryed twice along with rest, I originally narrowed it down to this plug.

Are we looking now at the injector? Seal or completely gone causing flooding to the plug equalling the miss

More likely a dead plug. If it doesn't light the fire then it will be wet with fuel.

Replaced that spark plug today, still instantly missing and checked after covered in oil , we looking at valve cover seal/gasket

Broken rocker arm or ignition cross fire to earth in distributor cap. Have you also checked compression on that cylinder ? These are just suggestions

The car has also had a very strong/ loud tapping noise from head, this maybe was a sign? and somethings completely given out now ?

Probably been neglected\abused if its broken. If so a replacement head would be the best bet but may not be worth fixing.

Narrowing it down to possibly head gasket, obviously blown out allowing oil in spark plug holes, excess oil around front engine were bolts down, looks very recent

Headgasket? Im confused. Are you saying you think the valve cover gasket is leaking into no1 spark plug well\hole causing a misfire?. Did you take the valve cover gasket off?

When pulling the head you want to get a gasket set like this:

Head bolts:

He will need more than a head set and bolt set to repair this properly
