Buying e90 320i - Anything to look out for?

Recommended Posts

RWD.. 4WD models are badged iX and rocking horse teeth in NZ.

Whatever you do take it to a specialist BMW shop to get a PPI done

will definitely be doing that - Diesels scare me for sure, and 220km is a tad high

What sort of fuel consumption would the 320d touring be hitting 5-6l per 100?

the current owner says it's averaging about 12-13 km to the litre (7-8 ish L to the 100km)

Is that pretty much the average for a 320d touring?

The older engines (M47) should be capable of 6l/100km on open road - not great on short / round town journeys though.

I felt the consumption he said it was running was a little hungry, suppose all the more reason for a PPI.

Are there any shops in waihi anyone knows about? I'm in Tauranga but the car is in waihi which makes it a bit difficult

An old Fiat or even a Morrie would be cheap on fuel... but regrinding the valve seats every weekend would get old pretty quick! An E46 320i would be a little better than the 330i on fuel, and doesn't have an engine made by Satan in it. BTW I think buying a Leaf means you sign a contract saying attendance at KiwiFist is mandatory, so I'd avoid that ? Still got the Levin? That'd be OK on petrol.

I had to google that.  I'm open-minded, non-judgemental.  It's too early in the morning for those images.  I'll never look at a Leaf again in the same way, without thinking of a#$ play. ?

Errr... yeah. Sorry :D The Leaf guys are just too nice of a target to not poke fun at, even if I don't know any (literal) gay Leaf owners.

on the contrary, any Leaf owner should expect to have the piss taken, even when there's an i6 or bent 8 in the background...

With those kms things will start to be getting a bit worn and clagged up so the power will start to drop off a bit and consumption increase. Not a huge difference if servicing has been done regularly and using proper parts and fluids.

Not much remedial action you can take apart from replacing parts (=$$$), I don't think the injectors can be re-built even.

Should still be good for a few 0000kms yet though and will still be heaps better than a 320i.
