AKA: this entirely unnecessary "enhancement" will cost you $14k every 40,000 kms (or even less perhaps?).

Who really wants a 4 door M3 anyway?

who wants a common m3 coupe?

Historical production and sales data would suggest most people did.

Hard to judge when there was no M3 Sedan for the E30, only limited time for E36, not for E46 at all.

Plus also not for all markets, M3 is outselling M4 by a long way in NZ over recent years.

I think this is down to the old school ideas of 2 door being a sports car for week-ends and 4 door a family car for the week being blurred by the fact that the M3 is now such a great all-rounder, it can do the school run, drive in daily traffic and also give you goose-bumps on a back road on sundays.

one would imagine this would eventually become the more desirable model over time. just for its rarity.

Not sure what you guys are smoking.

The only M3 that's been available in 2 and 4 doors is the E36 and the coupe was wildly more popular and has a much, much higher resale value.

It's the only apples for apples comparison that can be made and you're trying to undermine or invalidate it.

Confirmation bias much?

have you been hiding under a rock? current models for the last couple of generations have had both 2 and 4 doors.

And on that note Im out of here.

Of course you're right about the E9x, my bad.

How well did the sedan go there? So few made and sold that I even forgot they existed. ? More convertibles than sedans made/sold, that tells a story. ?

Defence rests.

Oh god, its like the SMG vs Manual arguments again.

We get your opinion Dave, and no one cares. Some people like more doors, and some don't.

I shan't be bullied!

Somebody says: sedan M3's are more popular than coupes

Dave says: no, not really

Somebody says: you forgot the E9x

Dave says: sedan numbers were even lower there

Ya see the thing is, it has nothing to do with my opinion, the original proposition was clearly incorrect. ?

You can keep trying to troll me Kelvin, it won't work. ?‍♀️

I must be the odd one out, I would have the coupe any day of the week, its by far and away the prettiest body shape. A touring would be better than a sedan, but both second to a coupe. M4 me baby!

Sorry to bring up the actual cars we are talking about, namely the F82 M4 and the F80 M3. This time with numbers...

Total NZ New sales from launch (both launched at the same time, so apples with apples...)

F80 M3 Sedan - 118 cars

F82 M4 Coupe - 71 cars.

May well be an anomally for NZ, I will see if I can find other market / worldwide production sales and production figures but as we live in NZ and are talking about the NZ market I would say these are the pertinent numbers.

Your witness m'lud.
