EWS question

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I can't locate the ews module on my E36 316i compact. Did some cars not have them or something?

Mines a 1999 UK import.

VIN: WBACS120X0AM36176

I was hoping just to plug and play the module I removed from my donor engine.

Should be behind the glovebox

Yeah it should be but it isn't. Wondering if my car was too low end to get EWS.

Should have it, split apart your key and look for the chip?

Yes, key has a chip. Car cranks with 316i chip but not 328i chip so must be some ews skulduggery in the car somewhere I guess.

Found it right up under drivers side. Plug is slightly different. Would it be ok to remove a tab do you reckon? Frustrating.

That (white one) is an EWSIII plug, your module (yellow plug) is EWSII, the wiring to the plugs differs so do not try to plug your EWSII module into it without rewiring it.

Yes, discovered I have EWS 3D. Unsure where to go next. Can I get a non ews ecu and bypass this? Engine is an M52 into a compact. Thanks

Will see if I can find my wiring schematic to do this. Did it quite a while ago and not sure where I have put it.

Edit.. and see if you can get the yellow female plug off an e36, should be plenty in the yards.
